Hi, I closed my Asus g60vx with win7 and when I opened it up and pressed the key the screen lit up black but didn't show anything. I connected it with a vga cable and the monitor showed the computer working normally but trying to switch the monitor on via nvidia control panel just led to a flicker in the screen but nothing else. I looked at the device manager and there were no alerts. I don't think its a dead backlight since the screen is lit up just black. What is wrong? Thanks

I wiggled it a little but nothing came up. I tried removing the bezel to the screen but the top portion where the camera is remains stuck. Seems to be glued on or something. Should I just pull it?

Okay this is strange. After not fiddling with it for several days and having the battery left out I popped it in and it didn't turn on with the battery which is strange because I don't remember draining the battery. I plugged it in and it worked again. I'd taken and left the battery out before. What could be the cause?

There are two screws underneath the rubber bumpers on either side of the camera, and then there is some double sided tape holding it in there as well. I posted some instructions here, unfortunately the images are broken now:

Taking the battery out and unplugging it will drain all the power from the boards, and reset the embedded controller inside the laptop. This is sometimes enough to resolve strange hardware issues, post back here if your problem continues. Good luck!

Issues again. The monitor stopped working after being in hibernation, still works fine with the external monitor. This time the screen works intermittently instead of not at all. If I try to start it up without an external the monitor loads into this bluish looking screen. Then when it gets to the account login the screen is super stable when you're at the screen where your password is wrong for some reason but turns on and off when you're typing your password. Once on the desktop the screen will flash on and off and will flash blue. If you plug in an external monitor or have an external monitor to begin with it will default to that and the laptop display will not show up in the nvidia multiple monitor dialog.Unlike last time rather than be 'powered on' black. Its 'shutdown' black when off.

I've left the computer turned off and battery out for half an hour and overnight without avail but have not yet left it out as long as last time.

PS this whole business started happening around the time I started using a 3rd party power supply. Could that be involved? I stopped using it for what its worth.

An additional bizarre tidbit. I'm running a graphing program. Although the external monitor appears to run fine for some reason now that the primary monitor is down I'm suddenly unable to generate graphs on the program on the monitor even though it works fine otherwise.

Could be a cabling issue or your lvds driver chip messing up. Did you try booting in safe mode?

Happened again. I fixed it the last couple times by leaving it unplugged without a battery for a long time. But I don't know how long it will take this time or if it will even work. Leaving it unplugged for a few hours doesn't seem to be enough. Holding down the power button when it is unplugged doesn't seem to do anything.

I thought the 3d party power supply might be the cause but it was using the old power supply it came with.

It could be thermal creep slowly making the cable push out, cooling down it goes back in slightly. Reseating the cable is your best bet.

You can help reduce the chance of it happening again by securing that connection with tape (as a lot of manufacturers do).

Use mylar tape as it's commonly used by manufacturers on PCB.

After repeatedly reseating the cables and then having it work for awhile and then not work and then work again after simply removing the front bezel I finally ordered and replaced the lcdvs or whatever its called ribbon cable and I haven't had issues yet.

Yes LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) :) Glad it's working.
