I need some advice about the G70S laptop.
I am seriously considering buying one and flogging my Acer. It is way more powerful even though how out of date it is but its features and the fact it has SLI is what is really drawing me in. It has everything I need in it and considering how much it cost when it first came out I can buy a refurbished one directly from ASUS for £599.99 with a full year warranty that comes with it.
I could probably get half of the cost back from my current computer and have the extra money handy. What I need you to understand is that yes there are better laptops out there for the money but what can provide what this laptop can with all its flashyness and good looks for the same price?

i think u can get an Dell XPS M1730 with Core 2 Duo T9300 and 8800M GTX SLI for ur price from ebay.. might even get 9800M GT SLI... have a look.

Sell it and take the money, call RK computers talk to Rob and order the
MSI GX740-235US system...and all your gaming problems will be over. There are people on different posts trying to install the MSI vbios on their asus for heavens sake. I configured mine and got everything i needed to game for around 1300.00
I returned 6 asus g73's to bestbuy. Goodbye Asus... -
you also did get a much worse screen.. and anyways , its out of his budget... the XPS should be perfect as long as the cards don't burn out like the 8 series do but the 8800M GTX shouldn't fail unlike the 8700M GT which have a high chance of failing.

I would agree with sean, look for a M1730 if you want a SLI sytem and try to get at least the 8800m GTX. My single 8800m GTS can beat 8700m GTs in SLI.

Is the SLI upgradeable in the G70s if I did find a cheap one? I hear that its well out of date but surely its better than my HD3650?
-
no it is not upgradeable unlike the dell M1730.. on that , u can find 9800M GT SLI or 9800M GTX SLI which is a super upgrade which u can do later on.. so trust us , M1730 is way better... and if its in warranty and it bricks , u'd get an Alienware M17x which would be a super upgrade so there's another side to it too u know

I went for the G70 at a gamble and im actually really impressed with it. I got rid of my Acer for £400 and so it only took £300 to get big differences in performance. Im running Windows 7 on it and getting around 10k scores on 3Dmark with Turbo mode against my maximum 4k on my Acer. The features are excellent and it is brand new with a 2 year warranty.
Agreed the graphics cards are way out of date but still hitting 1700 on FF14 Benchmark against my 600 with my Acer spec which is better than most laptops for this price.
Thanks for your advice on which one to go for but I read a lot of reviews about the Dell and lots of people had problems with them and the G70 seems to be as solid as the thing looks! -
i really do hope that those cards don't burn on u.. the XPS M1730 might have had some problems but trust me the G70S will have much more.. anyways , its ur choice.. we did warn you.
