Im new to this forum and im looking for help=(
My problem:
im owning an asusg71gx right now.
CPU: P8700 Duo
GPU: Nvidia GTX 260m VRAM: 1GB
OS: Windows 7 64bit
6GB ddr2 ram
640GB hddr
normal temperature: ~80°C
ingame: ~85-90°C
in "problem-games": heating up till 105°C
most of my time im using this notebook to game and i had never any problems with it. it has not the best hardware, but i could play.
for a while now the gpu is overheating in certain games and i rly dont know why...
in some games its not overheating and in some it is. when the gpu overheats it goes almost to 105°C and at this point the frames will go down and the gpu wants some freash air so i tab out of the game, wait 2 minutes, the temperature is on 85°C and i can play again...i dont know why this is happening and i dont know why this is only happening in certain games.
i googled now 2 days for a solution and send an email to the asus support, but they didnt answer yet..
so is anyone here who can help me or can tell me how to find out with what my notebook is struggling?=(
sry for my bad english=(

Have you Cleaned all the know vents with Canned Air.
To remove any Dust possible?
Is it even possible to Re-paste the GPU??
Do you have the newest BIOS and Video drivers? -
1. Yes, i got the newest video drivers from nvidia, no beta drivers, the real ones=)
for bios i dont know, i updatet my bios with the asus updater tool to 1701 version i think. it was the latest...can you anywhere look up the bios version?
2. i dont know if it is possible to re-paste it...you meane the heat-paste right?^^ i just dont know...
3. i dont cleaned them with canned air, just kept them clean...at least i cant see any big dust balls in there. but anyway would this dust cause problems for 1 game and wouldnt cause problems for other games? dunno=( -
Dust will prevent heat from leaving the heat sinks.
THe dust will act like a big jacket, it will keep eventhing warmer.
Some games really work the GPU allot, those are going to give us issues.
Aother games use the CPU more.
THe Canned Air can really help. it will blow dust out you never seen.
Do this once every 2 weeks.
Just make sure you use something to block the Fan from moving while you Blow....
For repasting the GPU/CPU heat sink, see if there is an Asus repair center near you. or and Authorized reseller, both can help... -

Lycrus,
You can read a little more about BIOS updates here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/174395-bios-update-guide-asus-notebooks.html
Also, there's a pretty good article on repasting the CPU/GPU heatsinks here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...um/527654-newbs-guide-repasting-your-g73.html
I know the last one says G73 but unfortunately I can't find a thread at the moment that has the G71GX repasting instructions. It is quite an intensive task and not for the faint of heart.
Also, although there may not be much dust visible, you'll definitely want to try compressed air anyway. You'd be surprised.
Let me know if that helps! -
Just wow, im so glad that i asked in this forum=) other guys said something about broken gpu and so on...and i just used air to clean the vent...
i was like "what the *** is going on from where does all this dust come from???"
there was quite a bit, 1 and a half year not cleaning the vent...
well as a noob i didnt even tryd to clean the vent cause i thought ill maybe brake samething or so, but the results are amazin.
-20°C ingame and -10-15 out of game, cant believe it.
my only concern is now if this is staying stable or the temperature will go up after 2 hours of gaming or so. ill test it the next days.
again a big thx to you guys, you rly helped me, this must be sound a little strange but you RLY RLY helped me with this little tip of canned air!
if anything strange happens ill post again=) -
I knew that would help...
Keep it clean, keep it happy....
The cheap fixes first...
