When I first bought the laptop I was aware of the thermal issue where the GPU would lock-up once it reached a certain temperature. I updated to BIOS version 1201 and it fixed the problem for some time. Once I upgraded my computer to Windows 7, it seemed like a similar problem appeared. Anytime I'm playing a game, every 5 minutes or so, my computer experiences a massive slowdown that lasts for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then, the game continues to run perfect, and it'll happen again. I read that upgrading the BIOS to the newest version could cause the original problem to reappear, so I was trying to stick with version 1201 for now.

I downloaded GPU-Z to see what temperature my GPU was running at and it was around 100 degrees Celsius, but the weird part is that it was at 0% GPU Load. That definitely doesn't seem right and I'm thinking maybe the GPU Fan isn't kicking on for some reason? I'm not sure if there is some sort of setting in the BIOS or in Windows where I check the GPU fan speeds and make sure they're running properly. Is there anything else you would suggest doing? Also, drivers are all updated. Thanks for the help.

That seems to be a pretty high temperature for your GPU. It should idle more around 60 max, and my coworker says his GPU (G51) runs hot too. You may be correct about the fan, and you also may want to try dusting out the exhaust fan.

Also, if you're feeling tech-savvy, you could probably repaste the GPU. Sometimes this can help lower temperatures considerably. This video should help. :)

I think I am going to try repasting once I get home from work tonight. Plan on stopping at Radio Shack to pick up Arctic Silver 5. Would be nice to find a step-by-step guide to repasting the GPU for this specific laptop. That video is nice to figure out how to take it apart though.
