I've had this laptop since early 2010, and I was wondering (if possible) if anyone could recommend a good graphics card to replace the current one. The laptop is still completely stock, other than the hard drive I had to replace, so I'm still rocking the GeForce GTX 260M. It's still great for the most part, but a lot of the newer games that have been coming out for the past year or so really struggle with maxed out settings, even if I'm overclocking. The most recent game I can run maxed out has been Mass Effect 3. I know it's a lot harder to replace a laptop graphics card as opposed to a desktop, but I'd rather not have to buy/build a new computer. Also, I'm not super experienced with messing with hardware, the hard drive switch is the most in-depth thing I've had to do with this laptop. Will I need to replace anything else with the graphics card? And finally, are there any sites that give good instructions on how to swap out the graphics card? Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to buy a new laptop, because the g72gx have a mxm 2.1 slot , so it wont fit a mxm 3 card which all the newer cards uses.

It also uses a reverse MXM pinout so you'd have to find a GPU specifically made for the G72.

I had a G72 for a while. It was a nice laptop and I liked it very much, really didn't want to replace it. So, like you, I looked for upgrade options. I'm sorry to report, after much time searching, that you have the fastest video card available in your computer already. I also found out that unless your laptop was shipped with a Quad Core processor then one won't work in it. I bought one and it wouldn't even boot. I ended up putting a T9600 in it and overclocked that. This was a nice boost I could feel. However, the best upgrade I installed was a solid state disk drive. That made it seem like a new computer.

    Thanks for the responses.

Can you point me to some decent SSDD's? Also, are they complicated to put in/install? Like I said, the most in-depth thing I've ever done with a laptop was replace a hard drive. Thanks.
