Soo dissappointed![]()
Second RMA in less than 6 months G&3JH-HST7
Reason: Bricked while updating BIOS for 209 to 213 using chasity's method
Why doesn't ASUS remove all the updates. They don't work anyways![]()

Now I have to wait for another 21 days before I get my laptop back.
This is nuts. It means I can't update any fu**ing thing. On one hand there are drivers coming out ATI 11.6 and something and I am still stuck on 8.0, why, beacuse I get GSOD issues.
On the other hand I can't even update my system, why, because I always brick it while doing so.
God is so mean
A throughly dissappointed customer

Before you take drastic action have you tried the numerous brick fixes that are on the forum. Do not lose hope just yet. What are your symptoms? how did you flash Winflash? or through the BIOS?
Firstly. Remove the AC and Battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then leave it....make a cup of tea....then put it all back together and power it up.
The next step is to remove the RAM and HDD and try to power her up and see if it will attempt to boot, restore her back to full working order and power her up.
After that you can try a CMOS battery reset on the mobo but that does require a partial dissassembly if you are confident in doing so.
You can also attempt a blind flash if you know what your doing.
Your worst case scenario is an RMA and if you do make sure they update it to 213 and v0.93 before they send it back to you once done you dont have to worry again. The JH when fully working is a rock it cannot be blamed for a bad flash its like a workman blaming his tools, bad flashes are rare but can happen you run that risk when flashing. -
I did try the AC and battery hold method but nothing happened.
For the other fixes no I better not try because I was scared of best buy. They might think I opened my laptop and may void my warranty. Too much risk !
I went today and asked the Geek Squad lady. She said it is a usual problem and that they have had people in the past coming to them for GSOD/ heating issues. She gave me a form to fill out, in which I wrote everything like please give me back again with everything updated. They will ship it to the ASUS center tomorrow. Lets see now what happens.
Bad flashes are rare HA! Ask me. Failed twice :/
And yeah I flashed using a FAT formatted USB drive. First formatted then pasted the .213 file in the USB. Restarted my computer. Pressed f2, entered in the advance boot options. Now as I entered the bios boot (the very first option)
somehow the BIOS 213 update file was already there. I mean what I expected was a blank screen and that I have to guide my way through the USB drive, but no, as if the computer already knew I was updating my BIOS and that it had the .213 waiting for me. I pressed enter, it kindof refreshed it self. First erased the previous BIOS. Then installed and 'programmed' the new one. Then suddenly shutting down in two seconds and then a small blast. Not really a blast but a wierd sound the one your hear when you forcibly turn off your computer after holding down the power key.
That was the last time I saw my screenPoor screen
I tried turning back again but no, I saw all the lights on. And then once the fans started hooting so loudly that I immediately unplugged everything.
Thats it dead as a 4 kg paperweight.
I will update you guys when it comes back after 3-4 weeks -

Bad flashes are rare and that fact that you flashed twice and bricked twice means that something was going wrong as that should not happen if you were flashing correctly or there could be an underlying problem there.
Shame you didnt post back before sending it in to be RMA because the above information would not cause you to lose your warranty not even the CMOS reset you do not break any seals when doing that and you can access the RAM And HDD just by removing the maintenance panel.
But oh well its off being sorted now so you will just have to wait and hopefully it will come back fixed -
Got it yesterday finally works fine till now. He(best buy official) upgraded the BIOS sequentially that means 211 and then 213. He was laughing hard when I told him that i tried doing it directly from 209 to 213.
He also updated the ati drivers to 11.7 (new ones out yesterday or a day before)
Well the problem is that he had no clue about the GSOD, and I got one yesterday.
I was wondering what is the best method out there to fix it with the least permutation of bricking.
Keeping GSOD on the side everything else it working just fine. Played crysis maxed out today and the temp were about 68-67
just concerned about the GSOD'd now any ideas ?? -
Here is how you fix you GSOD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/515309-how-fix-your-gsod-blues.html
As far as updating from 209-213, I did it...and then back to 211, to 209, then back to 213. Don't know why the guy at Best Buy was laughing. -
There's no reason to upgrade the BIOS sequentially like that, except to make more opportunities to brick.
Also, he updated the BIOS. Did he also update the vBIOS? I don't think so, and probably why you are still getting GSOD's.
Follow the instructions above, and use my vBIOS.There's also an updated version for improved battery savings on my Driver Page.

My case: updated the Bios from 209 to 213 then the vBios with Chastity OD enabled following the step by step instructions, and I asked many questions before doing it (everything was solved on this forums), the Bios was a very easy task, as for the vBios you just need to know what to copy on the Drive and what to execute depending on the one you plan to use.
Personally I used the same USB Drive and made first Bios --> Restart system ---> VBios ---> Restart system and everything has been perfect from then on. Fast and easy if you know how to do it, just follow the steps on the post above. -

God is mean I agree but somewhere right now someone is suffering worse than you are and with something a lot worse than a badly flashed ROM.
I back up what Chastity said as well because I flashed from 209 - 213......With Winflash.......
Glad you got it sorted though -
LOl i was emotional. In fact pretty emotional.
heres the email

I don't think so he updated the Vbios. He did give a through explanation and said that by updating to 213 the BIOS it self assumes that the laptop is built on 211. He added that as BIOS are updates they have to be done sequentially because each update is built on the base of the previous one. I kept nodding my head

Yeah if someone at Best Buy had the audacity to laugh at something I said, I would be compelled to laugh back then walk out.
