Welcome to the Asus G73 Benchmark thread here on NBR!!!

Here is an example of how you should take screen-shots of your benchmarks, LINK. Make sure your clocks are included. Also it is best to use the attachment feature here on NBR to attach your screen-shots versus posting up huge pictures that people will have to scroll through. I will try to keep some of the best scores organized in this post so people won't have to search around for the info.

Mine won't be extreme, but for now I'm going to wait until there are more tutorials on how to push the performance safely.

Also will post my numbers here in a few weeks when more information is released on how to do the above.

If you get a chance run some stock 3DMark06 and Vantage. Post the results in the format I linked above and I'll start a "top" list.

Nice, I'm looking forward to your benchmarks Mandrake, do you also plan on pulling the G73 apart to replace the processor with your 920 in the Alienware?

definitely. If I can't have it my way I don't want it. ;)

I already put in an offer to the guy who put the 920 in the price check part of the forum. Just need some Paypal funds to clear.

lol well it's holding up for me @ 1080p (except for BF:BC2, i gonna buy that on 360 cuz it runs really bad on my PC).

temps aren't good though, no matter what clocks for my GPU, it'll reach 101°C, since the fans dont kick into high-speed until that temp. is reached. but im fine with that as long as i have a 2 year warranty. heck, they might send me a G73 as replacement a few years later onwards (rofl i know that will never happen!).

    Hey Sach,

Did you go into advanced gfx settings in BC2? The reason I ask is because I set it to high on my desktop and it ran like crap (C2D @4.2ghz, 4870Ati, 8 gigs). I set it to medium and it still ran slower than expected. Finally I set it to advanced and realized that no matter what you set it to (even low) AA was set to 4x as well as AX 4x. I turned those off (1x) and was able to play it on high with full frames. Just a thought.

You guys seem to know a lot more about benchmarking than I do so I'll just post this here. I'm getting an N61, totally different laptop I know, but I'm looking for a program to put the i7 under a heavy load to see what the temps are like. Any suggestions?

It looks like Furmark is the best to test the GPU temps from what I've seen, but I may be wrong there too.

    Run wprime.

It'll stress the pants off your cpu ;)

And furmark will make your card burn as well. Both are great to stress test a system.

About to post some numbers. I can overclock my Gpu core to 825.9 ( rediculous!!!) from the stock 700 so far using Ati GPU clock tool. G73 is silent even when running a bench. Sensors reporting good temps. IMPReSSIVE.

Ok: Some quick numbers before I go home and tear her apart. These were with the core set a 799, memory at 1040. Will mess with it more tonight. Temps for the gpu maxed at 74c. VERY good.

13110 on 3DMark06, very nice. I just checked the 4870 X 2 numbers and the average was 14332. This card is great! Runs cooler too.

Normal for Ati thermal sensors as explained by Vicious and Cataclysm. It is measuring 3 thing on the chip, one of which is the number to note. The first number measured is the core. That's the money number; keep your eye on that one. The other 2 measure shader and gpu memory temps. Those don't matter so much as they run at a much higher and hotter frequency.

Are we SURE that the first number is the core? If so, how?

I don't know that. Vicious explained that in the thread a waaays back, so now I can't remember where it was. I think it was the thread where we were arguing with each other about temp. :p

I will start googling and find the answer.

Sorry Drake, I'm new to benchmarking and recording even though I've been over-clocking systems forever. I will post it soon, now that I am home. By the way, my memory was at 1040 when I oc'd the core to 825.9.

I got home about an hour ago. This thing had been doing windows updates since. I'm not going to do any upgrades until I have time to put in the 920.

I don't think a lot of my opinions will be popular ones. I have the M17x, Thinkpad T60p and the Sony FW290 in house and I just sold my M17. I would rate the build quality of the G73 last compared to those. The screen is just as nice as the M17. The M17xR2 RGBLED is far superior. So far this is the quietest system. There is lots of flex around the keyboard and there is NO air coming from under it. I haven't put on any stress on the system yet to see where the air is entering.

This system cost me about $1K cheaper than the M17xR2 and it shows.

While I like my G73 more than I liked my M17x, I don't think anyone can dispute the superior build quality of the M17x/M15x. They really ARE worth the money to a great deal of people.

The spear sound? Is that like a "woosh" or "phwept" kind of sound? Wouldn't a spear sound be the same on both systems? :p
