Does anybody know how to activate the bluetooth on the Asus G73JH-A1? I cannot find a program for it on the computer, nor can my mobile detect any devices. Just a little stumped really as the only indicator for bluetooth as such seems to be the wireless internet one, which is obviously on all the time. Anyone got the answer?? Im sure its simples...

First, you can go to your harware manager to see if it shows a bluetooth device.

I don't have my G73 with me, but one of the ways is an Asus utility that comes installed and sits on the system tray. Blue icon with a white antenna of sorts.

You click (or double click... can't remember) it brings an on-screen display and you can click on or off wifi and blue tooth.

If bluetooth is turned off with the app (which name I forget) Fn+F2 only toggles wifi on and off. Bluetooth stays off. At least on my comp.

I have the same problem and I do in fact have the Best Buy version. I fear you are going to tell me the Best Buy version has no Bluetooth hardware.

The only difference I knew about was the display and I wanted the 1600x900 because you get better framerates and at 1920x1080 the pixels are too small on a 17" monitor anyway. I made the mistake last time of buying a laptop with 1900x1200 on a 17" and learned my lesson.

Yes the best buy version does not include bluetooth. If you are one who is comfortable with opening up your laptop then go ahead and get yourself the asus internal one used in the x1/2 and a1/2 laptops.

It installs right under the palm rest on the right hand side. Installed this in two G73's without issues, works great and for $13 bucks shipped you really can't argue. I honestly can't see why you wouldn't want to go internal unless your absolutely petrified with opening your laptop up :).

Opening the G73 is not for everyone and i dont see why if all your going to need is Bluetooth not to buy a cheap dongle which takes 1 second to install... Beats removing 20+ screws and ripping the keyboard off the machine seeing that its taped on and potentially damaging something in the process ?... For Bluetooth only ? Err no...

The Microdongles are almost invisible and the G73 has 4 USB ports so put them to use ;)..

Here is a video in case you decide to internalize that Bluetooth ;)..

Again why I warned if opening up your laptop is to much for you go external, but if your thinking of doing a repaste in the near future may be worth doing the internal while you are there :).

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys, and FAST. I am impressed.

Anything else about the Best Buy Version that I should know about?

Since it was cheaper too, I wondered how they lowered it so much just for the screen. When I got it BB had it for $1199, although they want $1299 now.

Web cam is less Megapixels then the standard JH( this means 0 to most but yeah)

1 500gig HD vs 2 plus the Bestbuy version does not include the second caddy for the other HD but you can use Velcro to keep the HD in place as many people have without issue

1 year standard warranty vs 2 years and 1 year of accidental

No backpack or mouse on the Bestbuy version

6gigs of RAM in the Bestbuy vs 8 gigs

Alot of the stuff is not a big loss but i would say the Warranty differences and the screen difference are major sticking points between the 2 models for most people..

I see you have the Dell 30" 3008, I got the 3007, which is still 2560x1600. The pixel density on the laptop is about the same as that, just less area, so that gives you an idea of the display resolution.

I cannot drive my 3007 with the laptop, even to 1920x1080, and I have driven other external montiors that high. My 3007 seems to lack something the g73 needs, any ideas?

Also, do you know if the HDMI port can drive 2560x1600 on ANY external monitor or is this laptop limited to 1920x1200 external?

I was thinking of getting another 30" and using the laptop with external speakers, monitor, keyboard and mouse, but I won't give up 2560x1600. And yes I know the monitors cost way more than the laptop :)

You would need a Dual DVI connector on the laptop but sadly it does not have one... HDMI 1.3 max is 1920x1080 i believe .. My G73-JW comes with HDMI 1.4 which supports higher resolutions but i have not tried to drive the monitor that way because the HDMI input on the monitor is not capable of it and i would have to buy a DUAL DVI to HDMI cable just to try it ...

The 5870m you have is certainly more then capable of driving that resolution though but without that output option your stuck in the lower res..

On the 3007 i believe you only have 2 choices ? 1280x800 and 2560x1600 as where the 3008 has a built in hardware scaler so i can get all kinds of resolutions at full screen...

I have the HDMI to DVI-D cable, but I'm not sure my laptop has 1.4 or that HDMI 1.4 supports it.

Oh well, I have the JH. I bought this thing mainly to use as a backup to my desktop, but I never even thought about the fact that it couldn't put the vidoe out and had no docking station so no 2560x1600.

I guess I'll just build a new desktop eventually.

Nothing. They're going to say it's for the bandwidth needed for 3d, but honestly all HDMI cables and outputs can handle that (assuming it's a decent quality cable). A lot of the version crap is just marketing gimmicks.

But 1.3 will not have the bandwidth for 2560x1600, right?

Hmm seems the HDMI 1.3 does support 3D. The difference is that HDMI 1.3 3D standards or not set while HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic has been standardized. So hardware support for HDMI 1.3 may be hit or miss.
    - PS3 3D will be on HDMI 1.3. A firmware will allow for support on HDMI 1.4.
    - So it would seem firmware upgrade/software can resolve some issues with HDMI 1.4 compatability.

This is a very late overdue post/reply, but i've been overseas away from the lappy, back now! I still have the blu tooth problem (along with many others). I have the wireless console 3 installed alegedly, and its on the control panel quick launch on the bottom right of the screen, however when i click to open it there or even click on the app in the file location, nothing happens, i get an admin prompt, click ok...then ntohting and still no BT :(

Best buy now has a newer version of this laptop with a 1.73ghz processor vs 1.6ghz.

Does anyone know if this new version will play 2560x1600 via HDMI?
