As posted way back the AMD GPU Tool can overclock the video card without any problems. So if you were looking for GPU overclocking thats the tool you need to use. Click the link above to download it.
However it took a lot longer for a method to be found to overclock the CPU. We did not know due to the new i7 architecture if the FSB based software overclock was possible.
Or rather we knew it was possible but needed somebody to make it possible. So that finally happened just recently.
SetFSB the program many of us have used to overclock the Core series cpus (Core2Duo, Core2Quad) now has support for the G73 in its newest releases.
However its also no longer a free program, its now shareware and requires a donation to unlock the program. I think the donation is about $5.00.
Here is the setfsb homepage SetFSB_HomePage
Now there is a trick to manually use the free version of setfsb via the pll diagnosis tab to test your system and overclock it before purchasing the new version of setfsb. I think its a very good idea to do this first to see how well your system overclocks before investing the money in the shareware version.
You want to check for stability by using programs like wprime, occt, and many others to see if your computer crashes.
You also want to monitor temperatures to make sure things are not getting too hot (whats the software you guys are using now for accurate temps?)
So I would like to post this method here, but I am not sure how to do it. I saw a guide on how to do it for the G50V but it did not seem to work for the G73 for me.
If anybody can pots the manual overclocking steps an confirmed they work please do so and I will edit it into this post.
Cpu overclocking on the G73 deserves its own thread, but currently all details on it are lost deep in the other threads making them hard to find.

For checking temps...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...uestions-reports-suggestions-discussions.html
Unfortunately OC'ing the CPU bus without controlling the turbo boost multipliers will just cause instability along with the higher temps. If we had the option to turn off turbo boost then we may be able to push it further. There is a reason Asus chose a default OC bus of 142Mhz, unfortunately that ends up lowering the multiplier causing lower frequencies during high stress times. Obviously with the 920 the system is a beast. -
I would also like to see if anyone can make a G73 OC thread, maybe do a step by step guide as the OP is right, there isn't a straight up G73 thread/guide to OC.
I followed the G50 thread and mine crashes no matter what I do using setfsb.
I am using the shareware with G73JH and then the freeware and the PLL ICS9LPRS365BGLF. This allows to move both siders...but it crashes no matter what.
Do I need to turn off turbo boost in bios or twin turbo mode in Windows??
What other settings do I need to do or programs?
So if someone wants to step up and make a guide, you could be the coolest person on the Asus thread

If anyone had interest in overclocking the Core i7, you're probably better off trying to make EVGA E-LEET work.
-
^^ You can only get the software if you register a product of evga.
Anyone else want to post their step by step results?? -
I´m getting the G73 with the i5 450m CPU, can I OC it with the setFSB program, or is there any other programs around?
Really would like it to go up to atleast ~2,7ghz, maybe 2,9ghz with turbo mode. Is this possible?
I searched and read through threads here and there for about 2h but got no definitiv answer, and none about the i5´s.
If it is possible to OC then I´m a very happy man
Thanks! -
I also plan to oc some day but probably not now. Maybe when my warranty runs out or something. But I'm defiantly interested in a step by step process.
Check my sig for the other thread. I haven't fully read through everything yet but I plan too. -
I read through the entire thread and there is very little about the G73 and a step by step. I am kinda disappointed that nobody has shared their results with us yet. Since I have bumped it over 150 people have looked at this thread and nothing.
And on this forum you aren't able to PM, so some of the peps that said they got their G73 OC, I can't contact them! -
You can PM, you just need to get your post count up to do so.
-
I love my G73 though, it might be massive but its so damn smooth! -
Is there a way to overclock the cpu without setfsb? maybe using some other program? maybe a hack for setfsb to make it free at least for one try? I would not like to buy something before I try it out. Maybe it won't work for me.

See the below address..
has the link.

Also its from this thread below in nando4's post on a polish guide to overclock G73 if you need to confirm. The first link gives you the key you need for SetFSB to overclock.. of course u need the free setfsb first.

its really not worth even bothering with, once you increase the fsb turbo boost starts limiting itself to compensate. It really only seems to pay off if you can get it really high.

yah it was this one but like I said, not everyone's laptop can handle overclocking enough to push it past what turbo boost does already. Once you use setfsb turbo boost causes issues and won't change the multiplier properly to show a increase. Unfortunately a faster cpu is needed to get real improvements.

with setfsb and i7 720 mobility version u can rich 1.86mhz no more.
-
-
you can use the diagnostic feature of the free setfsb program to try it out.

I cant seem to find the 10H in the diagnosis, any pointers?
