I noticed that everytime i put in a new hdd it starts to go bad.
keep getting recount errors. i'll get more info on that.
now i think i'm resorting to using an SSD as an os instead of a 500-750GB hdd as my OS.
my bios sucks and i can't do anything so i need to look into that also.
just a warning for everyone i might need to RMA my laptop if this continues cause i am tired of BSOD's from my hdd and not trying to spend anymore money just buying hdd's to figure out that its the laptop and not the hdd.

Mine started causing HDD errors. I bought a new HDD to replace the one that had errors. Then both HDDs started having an error here and there. Then I started getting BSODs so I sent it in for RMA. They replaced my motherboard in November and all is well now. No more errors. The HDD that I had replaced turned out to be fine. It was the motherboard not the HDD. I guess I have a spare now.
NOTE: The HDD had a LOT of errors on it and I did have to delete the partitions and rebuild it because the motherboard problem really screwed up the data but the HD itself was fine. -
yeah thats what i'm thinking.
i bought this laptop form a guy in canada.
possible to RMA? -
try calling asus and see what they would say, they may offer to fix the problem for a small fee. or if your very lucky it maybe under warranty. You don't know unless you try.
also could try a different brand of drive and try downloading newer Intel chipset drivers that maybe the problem also . you never know. I had this problem with my a8nsli board. it had a buggy NForce4 chipset that would cause hard drive corruption, the problem was with one type of western digital hard drives I was using at the time. boy I can tell you personally some boards just don't like some types of hard drives. the strange part was it started after 6 months of owning the system, just started getting Red errors in my system event viewer, then one day black screen of death and windows would not start ever again. replaced the hard drive, ran my computer back to the store I had got it from twice, and twice they had replaced the drive. then on the third time a better class of western digital drives was added, and the problem stopped.
That's my two cents on the subject. -
i've bought seagate hdds so far only just higher capacity.
i bought a XT and it sometimes makes beeping noise but thats totally normal i would suppose because i ran HD tuner and checked it for errors and didn't come up with any. i did that for the OS of my hdd also and 0 errors.
your right it wouldn't hurt to find out. funny if this laptop was STOLE JK i have everything that came with it.
i've only had this for a year. i knew something like this would come up but then i would hate to lose my laptop for a bit cause i know the turn around time sucks.
anyways..... i'll do it when i'm in cali so it shouldn't be that bad right now i can live with it. i have no problem transferring files back and forth.
i was thinking the chipset also, but today i will install my SSD and try and figure it out and keep this current OS alone if anthing happens. -
I sent mine in on a Friday and I believe I received it back with a new motherboard and the problem gone Tuesday evening a week later so the total trip was something like twelve days including shipping time. They had it in their hands for two days and then shipped it back.

oh okay thanks jody for the heads up. i will definitely check in with asus. i just went on a long trip around twn.
12 days should be fine. do you know if i'm supposed to have 2 hdd's in there or 1 cause i would had to lose the hdd if i place it in there and they fergot to put it back -
I just sent it with the original factory drive. I did forget to take out an SD card that was in the slot. They put it in a little baggy and taped it to the machine. I think they take good care that you get all your stuff back although they do ask you to just send the machine. They don't want the power supply, battery, SD cards removed, etc. I was concerned that I would lose my drives and they would send it back with a new OEM drive or something so I kept mine. I really don't think they would do that, though. If you didn't send them the OEM drive they probably wouldn't just "keep" yours.
