Anyone else having this issue? Whenever I plug a headphone into the headphone jack on the left side, the popup recognizes that I have plugged a device into the 3.5mm port, but there is no sound coming out of my headphones at all. When I unplug the headphones, the laptop speakers work fine. Is this a jack issue or what?
-
No I don't think its a jack issue, since it sees it when you plug it in.Go into the sound from the control panel and see if you have to enable it(headset).
-
Under Sound Playback Devices, all I see are Realtek HDMI OUtput, Speakers, and Realtek Digital Output. I've already enabled "Show Disabled Devices". There is no headset option in there. I tried the Test in the Speaker Setup and I can't hear any audio.

You are plugging into the forward port and your headset does work?I just plugged my earbuds in and it just works as soon as its plugged in.Even if I plug it into the mic port it says you just plugged device in audio jack.
-
PS when I plug in headphones, they don't seem to show up either, but they do work.
Good luck , Josea -
No luck. Everything's at 100 max already.

Ok I plugged a microphone into the mic jack and nothing. No popup saying I plugged in a microphone. I go into audacity and record something, microphone doesn't work. I'm thinking a wire's loose here...

Did it ever work?Did you uninstall any audio drivers or Creative drivers? You could try going into Device Manager under sound ,uninstall everything listed in the drop down ,restart your laptop, let it reload drivers and maybe anything it may need from your driver disc.If it still doesn't work maybe an RMA is in order.I would call or use online support first to see if they can help.If this is your only problem maybe you should go with a USB headset rather than chancing an RMA(sometimes they come back with other issues)

I've never tried before as I've always used a USB sound card, but since I'm on the go more often these days, the USB sound card is a hassle to carry so I want to use my headphone jack. I've only uninstalled the Creative Audigy drivers as they freeze my laptop. I currently have the Realtek drivers installed.
Another thing: I know Windows has built in drivers for onboard audio. When I uninstall Realtek drivers the Windows default drivers automatically install. However, only my left speaker plays for some weird reason. Either that or the sound is mono. Then, when I plug in my headphone to headphone port. no change is detected. My headphones don't work, and my speakers continue playing.
Is there a disassembly guide somewhere? Would it be hard to check if front ports are really connected to the mobo? -

Was this laptop ever RMA'ed before?Maybe mobo replaced? -
-
AHHHH things are becoming clearer now.Now I'm not saying this has happened to you but a lot of times when say a laptop goes in for repair and the mainboard is bad they don't replace it with a "NEW" mainboard but a board that was pulled and repaired from someone else's RMA and sometimes problems were not repaired and passed on to the next poor soul that has RMA'd their laptop.Good Luck ,I hope you do find a bad connection.

Okay I just booted into Linux. As expected, my laptop speakers work fine. But, still no luck with headphones. I even chose "Analog Headphones" from the Port selection. (Other was Analog Speaker, which uses my laptop speakers, and Analog Output, which doesn't do anything). Still no sound from headphones.
So I'm gonna guess this is a hardware problem and I'm gonna call Best Buy tomorrow and see what's up. -
Well good luck, still have only 1 speaker work?If they work in Linux and not in windows (only 1 speaker )it sounds like software. As far as headset still not working call BB .they did service it right?1 888 678 3688 is ASUS phone support maybe they can help but.......
