What about "It's been wonderful but still had to send it in for repair"?

Apparently it's "terrible time" if you sent it in for repair XD

Well, I remembered a Sager that I sent back and forth from the east coast to the west coast seven times ( before it never returned and they bought out my extended warrenty), and never once did I consider it anything less than a terrible experience. The word WONDERFUL never crossed my mind :p

So far the rma rate has been higher then normal. In the first 4 weeks we had 15% rma. Recently with better qc we have only single digits. Poll closed. :)

I've been playing with it for 2 days and my problems come from the fact that the Best Buy model does not have any included driver or utility discs.

I put a fresh copy of Window 7 Pro on here and its a pain not having proper drivers for everything.....

Well thanks for your opinion Mark, perhaps for some it is a lame poll. And to the reseller who thinks the original batch was flaky but everythings ok now and the poll should close, I admire your confidence but my faith isnt as strong. But as a potential buyer who doesnt go rushing out and buying laptops based on some vapor seen at a PC show, I like to see what is happening to the real people who have purchased it. So far while researching the forums on this machine all I see are the people griping about problems. This lame poll is showing me whos NOT having problems. So far its proved valuable to me anyway. :D

The only issue I've come across so far is the BF:BC2 load time :(

Hoping and waiting for ATI to come out with a fix for this.

I picked up the BB G73 yesterday and I'm on my second one (first one had dust under the screen). Only problem I've had with this second one is that Windows was not reading all 6GB RAM. It would only read and use 2GB (though BIOS says there's 6). It has been fixed thanks to the help of friends. So I picked the second option on the poll.

Got my X1 02/12 and spent alot of time gaming and streaming movies and not one issue, runs smooth and cool  I've had the 10.3 betas running since they released and they are great. However the 10.3a preview had the machine stuttering bad so I went back to betas and all was good. Dont think I'm gonna do the official 10.3, probably just wait on the 10.4. And I have to agree about BFBC2 load times...by the time I'm in the team has already taken a Com station

Sent first one back for GPU corruption and freeze problems. RMA with Newegg.

Got another one, this time from Best Buy. It had a blue vertical line on the LCD! Returned immediately.

:D Not so fun I have to say.

    You're welcome! :)

The unknown sample % of owners...the fact that anyone's vote could change from one end to the other in a nanosecond...The cool thing about polls like this is that one can just pick the result set that looks most appealing.

But do you really know if the failure rate of the machine or the user satisfaction rate is 1% or 99% based on this poll?

My guess (which is statistically about as meaningful as these poll results) is that this machine is just as good as any other machine with similar specs.

I'd vote if I could put three answers - 1) absolutely love it 2) Keyboard problems 3) Sent in for repairs :)

One thing to note though is that ATI is definitely having problems with their GPUs. The grey screen / corruption issue occurs with desktop boards too. It's a hardware problem that they can't nail down. Even special fixes in the drivers targeting the instability have not eliminated the problem for those experiencing it.

A lot of people seem willing to live with the occasional lockups, probably thinking that new drivers may fix it someday. The problem can vary from frequent to a few times a month.

Of course those who have perfect machines are naturally suspicious of those who do have problems and wonder if the problems are prolific or if they are exaggerated.

This is the only real "issue" I have as well. Other than this, everything seems to be running great. My benchmark scores are on par with where they should be on a stock G73. Still getting used to the keyboard. I am not having any problems with missing keys, I am just not used to the island style.

I had to slip a piece of cardboard under the LH palm rest [just left of the trackpad] after it developed an annoying clicking sound every time I took the weight of my wrist off it.

I wish I could find a similar fix for the flexing keyboard, but I'm mildly concerned about heat becoming an issue.

Performance wise runs like a champ ^^

Trackpad is very moody, doesnt get most of my taps constantly having to redo my finger movement to get to work, i know its a defect but dont want to give it up yet for warranty service . other thing which sucks for me but is not a computer problem is the native resolution screws up my browsers text for me but since i set res to 1280-720 its fine, but thats my problem not a defect.

i have a ssd drive and no matter what bios boot setting i choose it always checks the cd drive first which slows boot up.

win 7 boots faster then expressgate for me

sometime the computer slows and my GTA fps drops to 22 no matter the setting.

the included camera software on here is horrible it makes the camera lag alot

feet pads fell off with use of the backpack

my arrow buttons have gotten shiny from constant gaming use even though i thourghly wipe it down completely every day with the cloth to remove all fingerprints. the shine will not come off which makes me think its worn down from friction

other then that i love gaming on it.

To me, this poll is like walking into a room with (currently) 56 Asus G-73 owners and having them tell me their experience so far. It doesnt tell me what the 50 guys in the next room have encountered, nor is there a crystal ball in the room telling me what will happen to them tomorrow. But thats ok, I'm not using the data to work on my cancer cure, Im just asking a few friends what they think of their new machine. The larger the sampling, the better vibe I will get from the room. I did the same thing when I bought my last car, and though its not purely scientific, it worked for me.

This is completely delusional since majority of people who do not have problems do not go on this forum. The sampling on this poll is not refective of reality which makes this poll useless. It's not an indication of how stable or quality of the laptop at all.

Delusional? If you look at the friggin poll its telling you that of those who replied, 64 percent, or 'most' of them are NOT having any problems, but they are indeed still on these forums. I dont even own one of these things and Im on the forums. You seem to be able to cut and paste my previous post, but it doesnt seem like you read it. This poll is not about rocket science, it is about 'a sampling of G73 owners who read this forum'. Yes, there may be a room of 63 people( who dont read this forum) and are all having problems with their machine, yes there may be a room of 63 people (who dont read this forum) and are having zero problems with their machine, I'm only interested in what my buddies in THIS room are experiencing with their machine. If the poll is useless to you, dont look at it. But it may help ME make a decision.

IT'S A STUPID SAMPLE if more than 95% of G73 owners don't view this forum and have no problems. This sample doesn't work, 100% useless and not reflective of reality.

All this poll does exemplifies people post on forums WHEN they have PROBLEMS, not when everything is going well.

It would be plain stupid to base your buying decision on this useless poll. One reseller alone already said their RMA record for the G73 is in the single digit. This poll is so wrong, and useless it's stupid.

And if 37% of customers were having problems, you'd be damned sure other resellers would not sell this laptop anymore. It would ruin their reputation and also cost them enormous losses. Having to pay for shipping costs, and for the time to take care of this would make selling G73 a loss. Not only that Asus would have done a recall on these as close to 40% RMA would indicate a serious and inherent problem and immediately discontinue this model.

So yes, this poll is not only useless, but it's idiotic.

    I agree, well said.

I'm on my 3rd G73. My first one had a bad GPU resulting BSOD errors. The second one had constant freezing even after fresh install and removing creative software. My 3rd(current) unit has been AWESOME after removing Creative driver.

There is good reason to have these kind of polls. The results/experiences help new would be G73JH owners make an informed decision regarding extended warranty purchase at the time or soon after the time of purchase.

My point was: The polls would be awesome if EVERY owner voted. The unknown sampling of voters with the unknown number of actual owners makes the poll pretty much useless. Just like benchmark software, I'll pick the poll that gives me the best numbers and ignore the polls with numbers I don't like :)

If you notice Ziddy, most people responding to the poll ARE NOT having any problems. So I'm not sure how you justify that statement.
I'm not going to use the statements of a reseller as my sole input of information, for they have a built in bias. For example, Im sure your local Toyota dealer isnt using the sticking throttle phenomenon as a selling point.
Since I already addressed my motivations and what I expect to get out of this poll earlier in the thread, Im not going to rehash it. I will simply accept your label of 'idiot' and allow you to crawl back into your den of pontification.
Its helpful to me anyway Mr Skygunner, and thats why I put it up.

The whole purpose of these threads is to discuss all that is "notebook". Most members of NotebookReview.com discovered this site by Googling for information.

I believe to a certain degree that this thread falls into that criteria.

as a testiment to the quality ive seen on the G73 so far, the other day I went to shake up my drink a bit and forgot to put the lid back on and end up spilling probably a good 6-8oz of water/juice mix all over the right half of my keyboard. So all I did was shut it down, unplug it, wipe it down with a micro fiber cloth, hung it upside down for about a minute shaking it a little to get the lose water out, and powered it back up in probably about 5 minutes... have not had one single issue or glitch or nothing...

pretty solidly built if you ask me...

I don't think the poll is useless or idiotic, because if someone posts a problem here another might be able to know the solution to it. I would agree that you are correct in that you aren't going to be able to make any statistical inferences as to the percentage of all defective g73s out there, based on this sample. I believe we would need a random sample in order to accomplish this.

Any way, only reason I returned my g73 back to best buy is due to the inferior AUO screen on the 1600x900 model. If all G73s came with the AUO screen, I would never of returned it. But the fact that some do come with a nicer LG screen just didn't seem right to me at all. I really think Asus should establish a standard from the get go as far as screen quality. It shouldn't be...ok, we will ship 50% of our BB G73s with the not-so-good AUO screen, and 50% with the better LG screen. That's my only complaint with the G73 from Best Buy any way. But FYI, don't let my opinion convince not to get a G73 from best buy, because it is in fact well worth $1200 for the performance, regardless of what screen that comes with it. I know I am just being a bit picky, but I would rather have the better screen that some are getting rather than just stick with the inferior one.

    Hi guys,

Quick query, I just installed my first game and for some reason all sounds directed forwards are missing, all ambient noises are there eg. thunder, lightning, creaking noises etc (the game is L4D btw) but noises like gunshots, noises from zombies that I'm facing are missing. I'm sure the problem requires something obvious to fix, but yea can't figure it out, any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

I voted minor problem easily corrected at home because as a serious power user, but not a gamer, I had to disable the touchpad (uninstall the Synaptic touchpad software then disable the touchpad in BIOS) in order to be able to type without losing key strokes. This is something I hope will be addressed by Asus eventually, as I should not have to disable the touchpad on a notebook in order to use the keyboard without issues.

Other than that one thing I have been very happy and satisfied. No notebook (or desktop) for that matter comes perfect from the factory (IMHO.) There is usually a certain amount of modifications and upgrades that need to be done to get any computer just right for any one particular person. :)

I was on inclined to vote for having no issues since it really has been wonderful. However, I did experience the ctrl esc freeze issue which was corrected with the bios update. Hence, it is nothing that I couldn't fix at home.

Nah, the problem is with the Synaptic drivers. The only reason I disable in BIOS is to keep from accidentally touching the touchpad and causing cataclysmic errors while typing! Without Synaptic, there's no way to disable the touchpad.

It's been an awesome laptop,I play BFBC2,CODMW2 Crysis and Far Cry 2 without any issues.I had to RMA it for keyboard backlighting when I updated the BIOS.But aside from that I have had zero BSOD or GSOD,no problems at all with performance.I have owned it for 2 months.
