Are there any good protectors for the G73? I have had a ton of issues with screen protectors in the past, whether they look 'cheap', bubbles, or just don't fit right. I would like to keep this laptop in the best shape possible. Do you guys have any recommendations on a good screen/keyboard protector? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also is a cooler needed? I have heard great things about the built in cooling system.

Sorry for all the questions I just want maximize my performance and longevity of my system.

you 100% don't need a cooler. In fact, I've heard some people say that coolers didn't work for them since the g73 sucks air from the top and not the bottom (or rather from everywhere).

screen protectors... no idea. I just take good care of mine. that micro fiber it comes with to wipe the screen off owns.

You don't really need a cooler, but getting something underneath the laptop to allow for more airflow is helpful. I also like using one as I am used to the elevation that it provides.

As far as screen protection, unless you plan on taking this "not-so-portable" machine with you outside and in dirty environments, just keep a nice microfiber cloth around and you should be fine. Also, I use a pillow case to cover up my laptop every evening when not in use. It helps keep the dust off it.

Thanks guys. I always keep my 'things' in good shape. CDS, DVDs, Games, etc. never leave them in systems or players, and my discs never have any scratches. I use a compressed air can as well for my computer and PS3. I just heard that the screen is somewhat fragile. I am also concerned because I am a smoker, and smoke causes serious dust accumulation. I will stick with what you guys said though, just a simple microfiber cloth, and when I am not using it I will either put it in the carrying bag it comes with, or cover it with a pillow case( by the way good idea!) Thanks again!

EDIT: Instead of the pillow case or putting it into the bag every time, is there some type of sleeve(not sure if thats the name of them), that I can slip the laptop in and out of. I don't want it to have a zipper or anything, just a simple sleeve that covers the laptop, except the one open part I assume. I have seen some that are big and bulky, I'm just looking for something very simple. More of a cover, then a sleeve(I don't need another carrying case). I want to be able to keep the cover on when I put it in the bag, something very thin not to protect from dropping, more to protect from dust/smoke, etc.

As an ex-smoker I'd like to suggest that if you're really interested in keeping your machine in good shape, don't smoke anywhere near it. Not only will the tar from the cigarettes stick to your screen [and after awhile it's a *$&% to clean] It can and will get inside and clog up the internals [ESPECIALLY if you smoke in your house, It just saturates the internals over time]

Thanks. I know, smoking is the worst for electronics. I need to stop in the house, actually I need to quit period(but that's a whole another story). It's so hard not smoking while gaming though...(If your and ex-smoker, you know what I'm talking about). My 46' Samsung LCD TV is filthy when I wipe the screen down with a micro fiber cloth.

Do you have any recommendations on a cover or a slip to slide my G73 into? Not like a sleeve case(pointless as I will have the backpack). I jsut wanted something thin to cover it from dust/smoke etc.

    TPU Keyboard Cover+Screen Protector Asus G73 G73JH 17.3 - eBay (item 160442982963 end time Jul-07-10 23:09:25 PDT)

Keep in mind though, since the notebook is cooled by air, nothing is going to protect the internals unless you have it in a temperature cooled isolated box. Long term you're more than likely going to have cooling issues either from gummed up fans or gummed up heat syncs.

And yea, I know all about the gaming smoking trigger. Fortunately for my hardware, my wife is one of those angry nonsmokers who hates smokers, and it was outside or not at all. It got to the point where I had to choose between smoking and gaming [I'm an MMOer, 10 min afks every 30 min can be a real aggravation to your pty members >.>]
As a side note, you'll notice which addiction won in the end ;)

It's possible, I've looked them up a few times, but never bought one myself.

I did buy a TPU keyboard protector for my Asus G73Jh-A2. Below is my small review about it.

I thought the G73 draws in air through the keyboard? Seems like a keyboard cover would be a bad idea.

No, there is no air drawn in through the keyboard.

Even if there is no air drawn through the keyboard, there is some heat dissipated through (or at least I feel the difference, albeit small).

How about it Jeffrey1987? Can you run a furmark with and a furmark without and post results?

I don't think you should worry too much about getting a screen protector for your laptop.
I can understand one on a mobile device- something that goes in-and-out of your pocket or case multiple times a day, subject to harsh treatment... but I've never seen a reason for a laptop to have one.

I'm extremely OCD. That means I want to keep my stuff looking perfect, but I find protectors just end up being useless. Usually end up getting a bubble or dust or something under it, and I rip the protector off.

I don't think it's worth keeping something in perfect condition if it requires it to look different. Take my iPod for example. I wanted it to stay scratch free and dent free forever (a pipe dream, I know. Curse you Apple), so I bought a case and an invisible shield. The invisible shield part on the back ended up turning yellow and the edges peeled. The screen part of the shield turned yellow too, and has this ugly texture to it.

The case also detracted from the overall look. So I just decided to avoid both and go "neked" now.

    Where was I?

Oh yeah, laptop screen. Yeah, you shouldn't really need one. I mean, if you have little kids that like mashing the screen (with diamond shards), sure. If you use the laptop in harsh conditions, why not. But if it's just going to sit there... there's really no reason. I've yet to scratch a laptop screen from cleaning it either. The shiny plastic around my 6920's screen is scratched from here to Ohio, but the screen hasn't got a single blemish.

As far as a keyboard protector... I haven't found any that don't look stupid. I can't enjoy something if I go out of my way to make it ugly just so it looks better some day, which wouldn't matter because it would either still be protected and thus be ugly, or not be protected and eventually wear just like it would have if I hadn't protected it.

speaking of keyboard protectors... I found a cheap wireless keyboard+mouse set so I picked one up, and so I thought I'd cover up the internal keyboard since it's just gathering dust when I use the external one....can I just place a paper over it ? since all the keyboard protectors are US-kb ones as far as I could find
about the screen.... still have the plastic it came with stuck to it....yes yes I know....but meh it gives it some antidust protection so why not

it really is a pain not to be able to smoke and game at the same time...does anyone know of a solution wherein a sort of exhaust (just for example) can be positioned near the user and the laptop thus drawing away all harmful particles?(save for the ash i guess). because for me, only a few things in life exist that are able to top the joy of having a smoke while gaming/browsing.

sorry if i sound disgusting, but hey.

gah...know someone who uses this... I think i should quit. ANYWAY, back on topic yes the kb protector is a nice investment, especially when you want to keep out annoying dust and food particles. as for the screen protector... as long as you are the only one using your laptop and you dont have annoying friends or relatives poking at the screen whenever they point something out-you should be fine without it.
