Hey guys just a quick question,
When playing FFXVI overclocked at 705/1100 I have noticed my temperatures going up to mid 90's and even hit 100 but usually average out in the 80's. During this time I have yet to hear my fan kick in to 100%. Is this normal? When should the fan be kicking in to full power? I have Power4Gear uninstalled, 10.8 ATI Catalyst and 211 bios. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
-
not sure if or when it kicks in at 100% -
For BIOS 211 the fans should kick in full tilt when hits anything above 87C. Why they chose that I don't know. That's the behavior mine exhibits. 87..no...87.5 full blast.

For BIOS 211 the fans go full blast at 76C. For 209 this is 83C. TSS1 isn't used for the fan but TSS0 is.
-
Hmm interesting, Should I update my bio then, its stable on stock right now but after running furmark for 10 + minutes the temps sit at 100-103..... This is obviously the middle temp reading, or the highest.
-
I get around +6-7C on memIO in FFXIV compared to SC2.

I am pulling 110C on SCII, and i want to repaste. So far, i have contacted an asus tech and they said that repasting voids warranties. Should i keep asking until i get an email that says that it will not?
-
Can you take it to an authorized repair center and just have them do it?
-
You can take it to a local ASP, sure why not. Just get a RMA for the job, and tell them the location you are taking it to. Bring your favorite TIM of choice.
-
My city has no local Repair for it
, not even the store I bought it from does, all they say is send it to asus. So its void or wait a month.... Im not too worried about my temps though, Im hoping their paste job settles and it starts fropping a few Cs.

72-75C for gaming is more like it
some only creep up to like 68C -
If I could reach the GPU as easy like in a Clevo barebone, I would have repasted it with Noctua NT-H1, but in this Asus it is too much of a fuss and I can't afford to brick my laptop -
-
haha, grab those screwdrivers quick, your manhood is at stake!
-
-
I repasted and my idle temps are now sitting at 60-62 down from 65-72. Not overly impressed tbh. Ran furmark last night for 25 minutes and it seemed to peak at around 92C. Wondering if it needs more time, or if I screwed up x.x ICD7 btw.
-
How much did you use, and did you tighten her down enough?
-
Half a pea size I suppose it is. And I tightened it as well as I could. Doesn't seem to hvae any more give to it.
-
Hmm, I suppose if you're willing, open her up again and check the spread pattern. Maybe you needed more.
-
I've already mashed up the keyboard, and the power button isn't clicking like it used to. I'm looking for an excuse to pop it back open. I think I will. afk
-
there's probably a wire or piece of tape that is resting under your power button to make it not click properly. With the ICD it's better to use more than less, the die is small enough to squish out the excess along with any air bubbles. A little more messy but at least you won't have to tear it open again.
-
I myself are in this situation after re-pasting as well. My idle is at about 59 degrees. FurMark peaks at around 92-ish temps on 1920x1080 res fullscreen, and xtreme burning mode. I will see how you fare if you intend to re-paste again Toxictaru, maybe I will do it again if you are successful. Good luck!
-
Rumble rumble.... I'm thinking about redoing my paste.. AGAIN lol. It's iddleing at 62..63..., without cooler, and battery in. So what do you suggest the best method is? I guess the pea method, but how do you know it spread good enough? Cause you can't know, and if you look, you screw it up cause if you reapply it than, there's airbubbles inbetween... What exactly is the difference between OCZ and ICD7 ?
-
Well, repasted again, waiting to get some temps.
-
When I just had it open again, the paste wasn't exactly thick, but the whole GPU was covered, and honestly a bit had gooped out the side. I tried a bit less this time, but coverage didn't seem to be an issue. I tightened the heatsink down with a better screwdriver (more torque).
So far, still warming up I think, but 58C so far. Not sure of my ambient, but it may be a bit high. Was pretty cold at work today and idled at 62-63C all day. We'll see if this is the issue or something else.
In other news, some wrangling of my keyboard managed to straighten it out quite a bit, and now it doesn't suck quite as bad as it did -
Anyway, after over an hour of mostly idle web-browsing, my temps are sitting at 62C again. 2nd repaste had no effect.

I know had to redo my paste about four times, trying different things out to get the temp to drop below 60. In the end I had to reposition the thermal pads to get better contact for the heat sink...it was weird. That was my last resort, because if I messed up I would have to wait for an order of new thermal pads to arrive at my home, luckily I didn't. Now sitting at a comfy 54 at idle(405/1000) and a max in furmark of 89...most gaming never breaks 80, unless I max everything out in ATI CCC and in the game at the same time.(Don't do it unless I know the game will stay around 60fps though)
-
How did you adjust the thermal pads? In what sense I mean?
Also, idle temp up to 66. Just about as bad as stock paste. -
I removed the thermal pads from the heatsink and placed them on the memory modules, I also made some size adjustments to the blue one near the front of the notebook so it made better contact for the other long strip, I saw a gap on the grey one, and the GPU itself. When all back together my idle is 54 now, furmarked to 89 and gaming(depends on game, most intense) is about 76-77. I used AS5 for the thermal paste on the GOU, its still curing. (Did 5 days ago, have run a furmark test for 15 min each day to assist in burn in)
-
Reseated the thermal pads and repasted a 3rd time. Lets see what happens. Its late, so nothing overly comprehensive right now.
-
20 minutes, slowly rose from 50 when I first got in to Windows (fired up Hardware Monitor before my startup programs were started). Fluctuating between 61-62C (140-142F). Will probably go higher, but that is where it is so far. Really not happy...
-
quote from icd rep. use more not less. I just used pea sized even though that is more than enough. Maybe you are using enough, but need more info to figure it out. I suggest you get amd gpu clock tool or something that can read the 3 temp sensors to see what the other sensors on the gpu are reading.
What does your hwmonitor show on your assembly and air flow temps under your hard drive? Are you using the latest vbios and what bios version do you have? It could be your environment that causes you to idle that high. I used to idle at around 60 when I first did my paste with the old vbios and bios 209 it would go up to 65 if my temp changed in my room by a few degrees.
