Sorry if creating a thread for these relatively simple questions is unnecessary.

I have a Asus G73jh and my temperature idles around 49-56 and browsing the web or playing a not too graphically demanding game like AudioSurf it goes around 56-60 I'm just asking if that's normal.

Also every time i start up the laptop and i think it occurs if i wake it from sleep is that it opens up Internet Explorer and goes to msn.com which is odd and i haven't found a way to disable it. I've looked through the Startup Programs through Windows and i looked through CCleaner's Startup list and i can't seem to find anything relevant to Internet Explorer opening up.

Start > All Programs > Startup > Remove Internet Explorer?

49C is okay, if it's constant. 56C is a little high for idle. What's you ambient temperature in the room you have your G73?

Mine's starting to get a little hot again... 47C - 55C on idle, ambient 18C - 25C... BF:BC2 brings it to 84C. Considering this has been repasted with ICD7, I'm not too happy with it. I'd hate to see what Furmark does to it.

Looks like it's time for a dust out and another repaste.

My JH is just as cool as it's ever been. You probably have some dust build-up.

If you are using the new IE9 (now on RC state) you will experience some increase in temp since the new render engine use hardware-acceleration. I tested the RC yesterday and in some pages I note the rise in my laptop temps.

Actually, those temps are fine. If you take a look at my sig, you'll see a number of people who have repasted (and thus, have lowered their temperatures quite a bit) and idle at 55 or so.

Some folks here have crazy low temps because of a) great paste jobs, b) low idle clocks, c) good ambient temperatures and d) cooler running chips.

Chastity's signature has something about repasting, and min/max temps too.

I thought i made it clear that i have already tried that method. My Startup folder is empty.

I've only had my Asus G73 for nearly a month and it would of gathered that much dust? Ambient temperature gets from 21-26 which is summer in New Zealand.

Your temps are lower than mine and I've had mine a year and repasted the GPU. Not sure what you are worrying about.

If you are worried, then run Furmark (stability test, xtreme burn, windowed) at your screen's native resolution. If it can go ten minutes leveling off in low 90Cs or lower than you're just fine.

And I think the "remove IE" comment was tongue-in-cheek. Actually the Windows 7 UI uses DirectX graphics and its associated hardware acceleration so doing almost anything graphically including dragging windows around can raise your temps a bit.

Hmm that sounds good. But the thing I'm more concerned is with Internet Explorer it gets rather annoying.

If it's not in the startup list in MSCONFIG, and it's not a scheduled task, then some other software is starting it (e.g. some AV apps are notorious for this).

Honestly, not much to be done about the home page thing - it's a beta. If the regular options don't turn it off, and you're 100% sure it's not a virus, then I'd blame it on buggy software.

If it's the heat that's bugging you, could roll your own vBios with RBE and drop your clocks. This really is an IE problem though - it's a web browser that turns on your graphics card on purpose. Though, with IE turning up the clocks and using the GPU a bit, you should still be idling at no more than 65ish. Idling at 60 is FINE, though you may be able to get that lower, it's your at-load temps that are important to watch out for...
