Hi everybody. I've been a lurker on this forum for almost a year, but the day has come that I have to come out (not of the closet). I've had my trusty G73 for some now and went through all the usual stuff-BSOD, GSOD, dust, etc. But I still love the out of it because 2 years later and it still runs games like a champ. Until now. You see, I've been having some horrible frames in Planetside-when things get busy the FPS drops to 20-25, sometimes even 15! Up until now, all the games I've played didn't have issues- and we're not talking simple flash games. Skyrim, New Vegas, Witcher 2. no matter the graphical settings, the fps in planetside is almost identical. So the GPU is ruled out.
I read around the net and downloaded throttlestop to test if the CPU is throttling (or is it throttled?). And the tests show that when utilizing 1 Thread, the multiplier maxes at 19-20, at 2 Threads its around 14-15, and 4 and 8 Threads is stable 14. From what I know, the 1 and 2 threads are supposed to be higher-22 and 19 respectively. The temps are stable, maxing at 71C with ambidient temperature at 22C and mild humidity. Tested with TS bench and intel extreme tuning utility. Latest BIOS and vBIOS (chastity with overdrive, but currently not overclocked). I don't have Power4Gear installed and most of the ASUS bloatware. Only the stuff that are supposed to be important. I also ran TS with logging on while playing Planetside for around 3 hours, and the log shows core utilization at 30% (which is 2 cores) and multiplier set at 14. I can upload the log if someone wishes to examine it further.
If anyone has any helpful suggestions or had similar problems I would gladly listen to them. I tried searching the forum for similar problems, but none of them were close to my situation.
My laptop is Asus G73JH BST7 core i7 740QM at 1.73GHz
TL;DR- my CPU seems to be throttling, 1 and 2 threads at 19-20 and 14 instead of 22 and 19 respectively. Need help.
P.S. Sorry about the long detailed post, got carried away.

It is normal, even if you don't see it, a normal windows installation has a ton of threads running meaning that you rarely hit the maximum multiplier when using 1 or 2 cores. 14 seems a bit low for a mostly two core load, but not impossible.

Thanks alot tijo! I tried to stop as much processes as possible, and indeed there was an improvement-the single thread was at around 21 and double thread reached 18! I guess I'll have to disable as much threads as possible. From what I've read, overclocking my processor is cumbersome and not worth the effort, but If anyone has more info on overclocking, please post.
Seeing as the processor is quickly becoming my weakest link, I was thinking of upgrading to 920XM. If anyone knows anywhere I can buy (aside from eBay) in Europe, share.
