    After sending my G73 twice to Best Buy service center and getting its motherboard and harddrive replaced, I finally got the laptop. Now, however, it's experiencing a problem I never seen before: Freezing up completely 5-10 mins into startup. So, everything boots up fine. I can get into windows, hear the windows startup tune fine, and everything runs fine for 5-10 mins. Then, all my USB devices suddenly disconnect and my laptop freezes completely. I have to do a hard reset via the power button to reboot it. Could this be a software issue? Or another hardware issue?

    The service center said the unit passed face and 1 hour stress test, but I'm not sure how they managed that when I can't even get it to idle for 10 mins without it freezing up completely.

    So apparently the problem is Windows. I'm on Mandriva Linux 2010 right now and there has been no critical errors so far. Will be reinstalling my own version of Windows Ultimate tomorrow. Anyone know where to get Asus G73 specific drivers and such once I install a fresh copy of Windows? The main one is Turboboost, as I do need it in case I play games that don't support quadcores :)

    Did you do a windows update before this happened? Cause this is happening to me too. Quite randomly too, sometimes after I play Starcraft II for a short while. And it just started today O__o;

    I had some trouble with Linux too, so I went back to reinstalling a clean install of Windows, and still getting errors. That's when I discovered the actual culprit of these errors. You'll never guess what the problem was. A loose stick of RAM :rolleyes: When I took the back panel off and looked inside one stick of RAM was slanted up in a position to be taken out. I slid it back in and everything seems to work fine now. Either the RAM came loose during shipping or those knuckle heads over at Best Buy didn't do a final check thoroughly enough. :mad:

    I wouldn't uninstall the creative... It does have better sound output.

    I had an old msi wind that would lock up the moment the centre of the base was pressed. Until one day i opened it only to realize the lock for the rams had come off. Locked it back and it worked perfect again.

    It doesn't matter for me anyway as I use a USB sound card which overrides the onboard audio.

    You don't have any AVG aintvirus software installed do you? I found it made mine hard freeze soon after start up. I uninstalled it and have had no problems since.

    I know this post has been idle for a long time, but i recently started having this issue, my laptop would load fine i could be watching a movie on the internet that uses java and then my pc would crash. i recently updated java and dont know if thats the issue. I also recently installed City of Heroes, and after 5-10 minutes of gameplay, that will freeze as well, im currently deployed and dont want to wait the month or so from sending it into an asus manufacturer as my best buy warranty has prob expired. i dont believe its overheating, i regularly use compressed air on it. Before i connected to the internet or any games i ran my windows defender and my anti virus, both of those finished clean, then after i started watching a video it froze up on me again. i have the same laptop that is presented here, i beleive i have the A2 model, i appreciate ur time and need my laptop asap as it is my only means of communication with home via skype, when im at work only email and facebook work. thank you again have a great day.

    I would try updating Adobe Flash, and if it continues, disable hardware acceleration in Flash. I'd also try disabling the Wifi to see if the issue goes away. If so, then update your Wifi driver.
