I'm a recent owner of a g73 and while i have zero complaints about it.
i do however have a singular concern. i have been using my g73 as a desktop replacement and keeping it plugged in to the wall for power.
ive noticed that after a couple hours of use the power brick become extremely hot at times a but too toasy to touch. has anyone else noticed this. any tips to keep it from cooking? and is that normal?

The computer at times can draw alot of power. I've had peaks of 172w, which is higher than the 150w brick is rated for. However, there is a cheap alternative!

This is something I don't get. If Asus knew that the unit will draw upto 170w under load, then why on earth would they bottleneck it with a 150w adapter. Surely the extra 20w wouldn't cost that much. Btw, my stock adapter gets pretty toasty as well., specially when its charging the battery while its still running.

well its a small relief that it wasnt just something faulty. a big shame on you to asus on this. I'll look into the adapter and hopefully the 150w wont die until then.
very helpful thanks guys +1 rep all -

Is the Targus adapter bigger than the current Asus one?
Does it have a quality feel or does it feel like a cheap chinese knockoff?
It could very well be a future purchase -
That interesting to know, my power supply sounded like it was short circuiting so i summed up the heat to the short. But this is good to know ill probably buy the bigger one later on.

The Targus brick is about 1/4" thicker, and 3/4" longer, so no, they're about the same general size, tho it's noticeably heavier. Also, it's a universal unit, so if you travel, you only need a local PC PSU cable. The Power connection is a standard PC power cable. My only caveat is the cable running to the PC. At the brick's base, my first one's cable twisted, and the outer covering opened, exposing the outer shielding. Still works, just needed to wrap it in electrical tape to protect it.
My 2nd one is a rev. A02 and has a similar connection, but looks beefier. I would still recommend reinforcing it with either shrink tubing, or tight electrical tape, to help prevent issues. Also has a ferrite noise filter on rev A02.
