Well, from what little research I've done I can already see that I made a huge mistake by getting my G73 from Best Buy. So, what I do know is, it doesn't have an extra hard drive bracket for adding an additional drive. My problem is, my SSD just arrived today (kingston 128 V+), I haven't torn into it to place my new drive yet but from my research I've found that the only known place to get the bracket is from asusparts.eu and they will not be available from asus until september.

However, as you can imagine, I just got my ssd, I want to use it. Has anyone come up with anyway to house the hard drive SAFELY within the case without the bracket? I'm not opposed to getting the correct bracket but with the 4-6 week waiting period I'm reading some people are experiencing I'm not real excited about waiting. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, worst case scenario I will live with just the ssd for now, just not crazy about that.

Double sided tape? Foam peanuts? Velcro? Cardboard? Fishing line? Chewing gum?

Huge mistake because of what, not being inventive? :)

No single drive G73 includes the second hard drive mounting bracket.

Really? I thought only the BB one's didn't include the secondary bracket, well I guess I can find some way to hold the thing in there lol.

I recall someone mentioning they used a mounting bracket from a different laptop. Do you happen to have an old laptop? How about a recycle or used laptop store? If you do have such a store, perhaps they have a box of brackets and then all you would need to do is bring in yours to find a match.

Can't say whether cross-species parts would work, but it's worth a try. Maybe the donor bracket could be modified?

    Pity you feel that way.

And just because you didn't get the second HDD bracket?

Okay so, drive is in, and running, and holy hell this thing is fast. Here's the prob, I initially put the new ssd in the secondary drive slot...it wasn't recognized. Didn't think too much about it, went ahead and cloned it via usb, however, now the ssd is in the primary slot, and my old drive is in the secondary slot but now it is not recognized. I fear I may have a bad sata port, has anyone else had this problem?

    Raven,

I had the same issue, my secondary port was dead. I was unable to get it to function. At ASUS request I flashed the bios from 2.04 to 2.05, However, doing this killed the laptop, it would no longer boot. I returned the laptop and got a new one. The secondary port worked fine. Not sure if it had anything to do with the BIOS, but the new laptop already had 2.05 installed.

Take off the plastic cover from the SSD, and you won't even need a bracket (just free hanging). You could leave it on, too, and it'll stay wedged in.
