I stumbled across this looking for something else and was waiting to see where my lappy falls in the list and  , its not even listed. But they listed some others that I didn't know were "gaming" machines. Granted this is a month old, but please, don't tell me the Gateway ID series I5's are rated higher than the G73JH or SW. Someone needs to inform PC Mag that their ratings are squat. Of course what good would it do?

What shocks me is them putting clearly non-gaming laptops in there, like the HP Pavilian.

EDIT: The author does cite software and hardware issues as the key reason for their omission, but "asus hasn't been able to get dual 5870's to work" seems like a half-assed excuse.

there are many laptops with Dual graphic cards on the market right now, like Alienware got 5870m cf and gtx460msli models i think, clevo x7200 features 480msli and 485msli for sure, also some new models come out this year with 6970m, so 5870m definitely falls out of top10 at 2011

from Gpu power point of view, top 10 in 2011 should include 485msli/480msli/6970m cf/485m/6970m/5870mcf/460msli/480m/470m/6950m

    LOL

    That list is a joke.

The author put a whole bunch of junk laptops that struggle on Medium Settings.

One of the worst "top" lists I've seen in a very long time.

pffff, that's not a good chart

Also, they test crysis, the most non-optimized game developed ever... super pro the chart

Well, that info isn't in the article, its in the comment section afterward by someone other than the author of the article. Didn't some other of these products have issues as well, say the M11x for example?

You are forgetting that companies are aiming these overpriced underperforming laptops at those people that do not know the ins and outs of what is needed to be a gaming laptop. Bit like me a few years ago when I just looked at how much memory a GPU had - WOW 3000mb of integrated graphics memory. :D

Its all about money. The G73 gives great performance at a great price but the cost to build isa bit steeper because of the good components.

Duel 5870's in a G73 :) Without the extra GPU port alone I would love to see were you would actually stick it cos I couldn't even squeeze curly wurly into mine!

    Ridiculous!
Who the heck wants to play Crysis at medium settings?!

This person needs to go back to journalism school and learn how to do some research.

My thoughts exactly. The NP8150s too since they stressed on portability. No MSIs either.

The only place I'd go to when choosing which laptop would give better gaming performance is notebookcheck. They have all the benchmarks running the most popular games on different mobile GPUs. The GPU should be the first thing people look at when choosing a gaming laptop.

Almost all of those are either insanely priced ($3500? $5000?) or just a tad above mainstream "affordable" laptops ($<1000). Nothing in the $1300-$2K range. I found ASUS to be the best laptops in terms of price and "extra" offerings... (the cooling vent size for instance... the heat dissipation is NICE; my room is an icebox now!)

Design-wise, the only doubt (and now gripe) I have is that the keyboard is very cramped and stays cramped on the 17.3 inch models, with over an inch of margin on both sides. I haven't found a gaming laptop that doesn't have a cramped keyboard, though.

I'm finding that it just not might be as reliable as I thought. Camera issues, HDMI sound issues, gray screen of death too! I've gotten gray screens of death several times, but possibly it isn't ASUS's fault as I was using games that run on DirectX9 and switching around screen resolutions randomly. The packing was meticulous, though. Everything was covered with protective paper or film -- keyboard, screen, and even the little camera triangle...

Lol that list is sad. It has both the m15x and m11x, but lacks the true powerhouse, m17x? Also, lacks the 15in/17in sager w/485m which are real powerhouses, and the asus g-series.

Hp-pavillion, really? And that gateway was just a joke

Lol! If anyone still think g73 is eliminated because of its bsod, software problems, g53 should come in the list since its problem free with the same performance.. I guess he has never heard about asus g series!

The sad thing is that probably hundreds if not thousands of would be gamers will pick one of those based on the article, and be stuck with a sub-par lappy, then go spouting off that laptops aren't capable of hardcore gaming action.

This is what worries me most. A popular publication giving inaccurate and bad advice with no intention of correcting their mistake. I've always taken articles from PC Mag with a grain of salt, but after reading this article, they have lost all credibility in my books.
