I was wondering if the problem is the video card??? or The processor??? its 1.7 ghz to 2.8ghz??? And if its possible to upgrade my asus g73??

THANKS!!! yeah im a "noob" to this :]

Magna.. I feel your pain. I would start by making sure that your power scheme in Windows control panel is set to High performance, and also check Catalyst Control center- Graphics- PowerPlay - is set for Max Perf also. I assume that you are not on battery when this happens also.
Your present configuration should easly handle this game.

Yes the Processor can be upgraded.

You can upgrade the CPU but I don't think you can upgrade the GPU. Plus the 5870 is the best you can get as of right now IIRC.

@Magna: Mafia 2 is really new, and laptop GPUs aren't as strong as desktop ones. So you might have to go to HIGH detail instead of ULTRA.

You cant run all games maxed out. Youll have to tune down Mafia 2, SC2 and such newer games (or poorly coded ones like Crysis).
As DCx said, laptop GPUs are decently weaker than their desktop counterparts.
The only laptops out there that could probably handle all games maxed out CURRENTLY are SLI GTX 480m or CF Mobility 5870 dual GPU laptops like the M17x, X7200...

I saw on EBAY people have ripped out their 5870's and are selling them. Any chance of a 5870x2 :D

If so I'd love to be one of the 1st to try it :D

Hell, If i was able to do that I'd definately buy a 940MX or XM w/e or 920 maybe? :D

Let us place emphasis on “any chance”. Then again, I guess I have my answer. So thank you :)

Meh, I'll wait till my year is up until I try the 920/940. Though, I'd think by then something that will blow it out of the water will be out. Seems to be the common occurrence of things eh?

    +1 for tact

Again that's about you can do. You can't wait for something better as the next model from Intel will be using a different socket. So the question again becomes, for sandy bridge, where are you going to put it?

This isn't something that is just affecting Asus. Any current laptop running i7, are stuck like this, no real upgradeability.

IMO just use the i7 720QM unless you REALLy need the extra power. Save the $800 the 940XM costs and put that towards your next system with whatever new CPU intel has in 2 years with 28nm GPU model AMD/Nvidia has.

For which you'd dish out about 3000USD for. So I'd take HellFire's advice and turn down the res or the graphics settings. Not to mention it's one of those really badly ported console games that runs like garbage anyway. It looks no better than GTA with AA mod if you ask me.

Well I got the G73JH-BST7 So 720p is what I'm limited too anyways :D It works for me really.
It's just me but personally if I wanted a better screen on a laptop, I'd really just buy an external. Though I know some will want the portability.
For now my 740QM does great, best proc I've had thus far. So, I'm happy. I can't wait till this damn deployment is over so I can build myself a desktop.
The only game I really play anymore is AA3 anyways, so at max resolution and settings I'm still getting 70+ FPS. I'm happy, I was just wondering. You know how it is, when you get enough power; you tend to want to push the limit. Hence overclocking :p
    Thanks for everyone’s input
