    Hey everone,
A long time lurker here but this is my first post and I am a complete Noob compared to most of you here :)

I am a owner of a Asus G73 myself and I have some quiestions. I have been following the threads related to the GSOD problems and attempts to fix with the various combinations of drivers, BIOS, and vBIOS, and also the waited updates from ASUS themselves on resolving this issue.

I am recieving random and seldom Blue Screen Of Death(Only Blue) on my own G73 and was curious if they could be related in any fashion to the GSOD. They are completely random (mostly while I am browsing the web) about once or twice within a 4-5 hour period. I usually idle around 49 degrees C so it would not be heat issue.

My drivers are completely stock and I am currently running BIOS 209.
I have used the search feature and google several times and the only thing I have heared is that it could have something to do with windows update?

Thanks for any help in advance

Do not update your windows 7 OS.

I have that problem and sometimes lock ups then I mailed ASUS and this is their reply:

    Hello,

We don't recommend installing all WINDOWS Update if the unit is working properly because this may cause confilct with device drivers and pre-installed applications.

Thank you for choosing ASUS products.

    Thank you for the Reply,

That sounds like a possible situation because It started doing this about two months after I purchased it and several windows 7 updates.

There are no restore points that far back into July. My guess I will need to reload windows...

Is it me or it is pretty wild for a manufacturer to tell you not to apply windows updates? In particular for security patches, these are essential to keeping a healthy system...

Yeah you're right, But it's not for everyone...it's for the few like us when we update our OS we get BSOD. after system recovery with no updates it runs smoothly.

I could be wrong, but I would suspect WU last.

If a computer has problems with the WU - especially the critical and the recommended updates, I would be searching for the solution elsewhere.

Are there any one off apps or utilities that you have installed that could be causing this issue?

Also, have you updated everything that is possible (drivers/software) from the Asus website?

WU offers fixes that concentrate on security and sometimes performance and also compatibility too - not updating is the worst advice you can give and/or follow.

    Good luck.

When I updated and installed a critical update I got the same problem as you. Just back up all your files and do a system recovery at boot screen press F9.

The only programs that I can imagine causing conflict would be AVG and Zone Alarm...

As far as drivers go, everything is pretty much stock... That should be where attack first I'm assuming

Okay thanks, if any of the newer drivers don't help I guess I will do a system recovery next.

    AVG and Zone Alarm?

Yup, get rid of those and see how the computer responds.

I highly recommend MSE for A/V software.

Unless you're trying to get your computer infected (by going to nefarious websites on purpose), Zone Alarm is known to cause weird and unpredictable problems.

i really suggest Avast instead.. trashes MSE and has caused no problems for me at all.

    Used to love Avast!

But MSE is much less invasive and causes less havoc with 'exotic' peripherials like courtroom steno recorders for one example I have seen (Avast would freeze up the system).

Thanks for all of the help everyone,

I took a look at Zone Alarm and noticed that I installed it a mere week before my BSOD problems began to occur. However, it could be coincidence? Im about to look into getting MSE/Avast for anti-virus replacement of AVG as recommended here in a bit.

Like I stated they occur random and seldom so I will be sure to update sometime tomorrow on if the issue was resolved

Even without AVG sometimes I get BSOD specially when exiting/closing some games. My friend told me it's just a fatal error of the game?

I'm using the 60 day Free Trend Micro AV. After the elapse time I'll install NOD32.
