So I've had my laptop freeze on me for the first time today, pretty freaky.

Wasn't even doing anything strenuous on it, just powered it on and was talking to a buddy on Skype while sending a few emails. All of a sudden his voice just hanged there and everything froze. I waited a bit to see if it would subside and it did not.

Laptop was under normal temperatures, very cool, didn't have any unusual programs running, using retail version of AVG so security shouldn't be an issue.

I've looked around on the forum but an explanation was never properly given. It's just that so many people have had their machines bricked it seems and I get nervous. Does this happen often to any of you? Or at all?

voice just hanged? update your realtek drivers if you have creative audio installed.

Xellon's right. Go to realtek website and get the latest realtek drivers (2.56). Run the downloaded file, it will uninstall the current realtek drivers, reboot as instructed, run the downloaded file again to install now the latest realtek drivers, reboot as instructed, then your ok.

I bought the laptop fairly recently, and after looking around a bit I was surprised to find that everything is fully updated, BIOS and all. Unless a new RealTek driver just released within the past month or something.

Also it just froze again, this time I was watching a video with VLC. The unusual nature is that I do Skype and watch stuff on a daily basis and this is the second time that this has happened.

On a possibly related note, some unusual did happen prior to these freezes:

I usually leave my laptop on hibernate, yesterday when I was resuming windows it restarted without any prompt as soon as I logged in. I don't think it was a windows update restart as it told me Windows has shut down unexpectedly upon powering itself back up. I didn't think too much of it.

    EDIT:

    Alrighty, I'll try this.

    EDIT:

Apparently a new driver came out just 4 days ago, the 2.57. I found it on this link here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

But now I've got a new problem, none of the mirrors provided lets me download. I'll try to see if I'm doing something wrong here.

so u came out of hibernation, it said "resuming windows," u logged in, then it restarted? I would check your event viewer (right click my computer and go to manage). If it says anything about karnel levels, try the windows fix in my signature but make sure... I repeat, make SURE u create a system restore point first. Test it to make sure the restore will work, then try the patch.

It might be the case that your issue is related to your Creative Audigy Software that's making the OS hang-up wherein you need to do a hard reboot/restart.

You don't have to uninstall your Creative Audigy Software. You just have to update your Realtek Audio Drivers.

In my case before, when after I downloaded on firefox using DownThemAll plugin, it usually plays a download finish sound. But before it plays that after reaching 100% download, OS hangs up. Logging in to YM or Skype too does this. When you just click sign-in, it usually plays a sound. But before doing so, the OS has already hanged-up.

Hope the fix would work for you!

opps, before attempting the hotfix for your hibernation issue (if u want), search for your specific issue since there are many different patches.... I think the site also has a forum.

    Would this be it?

Also no, it restarted on me after I logged in, which was after the "Resuming Windows" Screen

Yes, but that's just the event logged because "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first". You can possibly get more info from that event as described here.

Also look at those error and warning events in case any of those happened at the time of the crash...

    I'll look into it, thanks.

Also just downloaded new RealTek driver, just making some restore points right now in case things go awry. I'm so paranoid haha.

Just follow the instructions....first pass will uninstall old driver and ask you to reboot....do it. Then run the installer again to install the new driver - it will ask you to reboot - do it. Upon success, the driver version for the Realtek High Definition Audio device should be 6.0.1.6299.

    Good luck. :p

Yea, I said test the restore point first cause something happened when I did it a long time ago. When I did a system restore, it said windows was unable to do the system restore.

I was like......! But never knew y it happened. I just had to restore from an earlier point.
