    Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it as I'm beyond frustrated right now.

First I bought the "X1" configuration off of Newegg. Within about half an hour after unboxing it, while doing a system image recovery,

(I upgraded it to Ultimate and MS Online wouldn't recognize my key, so I was trying to put the original OS back on until I could get it sorted out)

    **The Screen Completely Died**

Nothing. Nothing on the screen, nothing faint, nothing graphic. Just nothing. Outputting to a 2nd monitor via HDMI had absolutely no effect either.

I have only found 2 posters on here with the same issue.

So I think to myself, "Well, there's been some reported QA issues with this model which usually happens when they're rushing supplies to meet demand. I got unlucky, but since it's not even an hour after unboxing, I'll just exchange it for another."

And Newegg then does one better by giving me without asking, a full refund on the unit. (Very class move)

To in which I take that refund and manage to be lucky enough to snag myself one of the "A1" configuration through a store pickup at Fry's. Which of course only has a 15 day return policy on Notebooks and I bought the A1 on 5/4/10

And between now and then it was 3 weeks of gaming bliss. I threw 28 games at the machine and she played it like a champ, pumping it out to my 60" Pioneer Kuro giving my Desktop rig a real contest.

Everything from Crysis to Star Trek Online stayed above 30fps with an average of 40-60 (Crysis needs to have AA turned off, all advanced settings set to Gamer with Shadows and Shaders set to 'Mainstream' and you will have a 30+fps experience at %98 times at 1920x1080)

So, after going through a headache with my Blu-Ray player software crashing anytime I tried to play a disc, I noobily figured that there was some Windows Update confilct and when after not being able to locate it, through a series of mishaps was forced to use the dreaded 6 DVD total "system image recovery"

Everything loads up fine, it performs the whole task, says it's finished and will shut down. And when I go to boot it up?

DEAD FRACKING SCREEN!! And nothing VIA HDMI works either. Same thing!!

This is where I should not forget to mention that the phone tech support suggested action of "Unplugging the power, taking out the battery, using a paper clip, push on the button on the back next to a bow tie icon. And then with the battery still out and the power disconnected, I held down the 'power' button for 30 seconds - Both had completely no effect.

At this point, I am thinking that there really is a QA issue and I'm just in the thick of it, OR

this is some frigging factory setting that is somehow user fixable and that it's not truly dead. Being as they both died around installing an OS or the System Recovery

Asus has already issued me an RMA and are saying it's going to be 3-4 weeks. And I use this comp for work, so I'm bumming.

I thought about using a Fry's extended warranty, but they don't have any in stock to exchange it.

Anyone have any ideas?? Is this fixable? Am I frakked and stuck with a 3-4 week RMA??

Some other threads online about other netbooks say that this can happen when there's too much moisture on the Ram and it gums things up? Could it be this?

Sorry, for the stupid questions, but I'm a pretty dedicated desktop gamer and have never owned a notebook before as none were ever affordable that could play games on a comparable level as desktops. Until the G73JH

Beware when using System Image recovery or dealing with partitions, as both times when the system rebooted on purpose, it booted up with a dead screen.

    Any ideas?

    How common is this?

    2 in a row?? ??

When the machine is working it is fantastic, beyond expectations. But after having 2 dead LCD screens (or is the ATI since the HDMI doesn't work either?) I am concerned about the Quality Assurance at Asus.

If anyone has a fix, you're a true Jedi....

    Peace!

Come on Asus! Don't pull a Toyota!

I really feel for you :( . I mean, I myself had own a G73Jh before. It was a brand new unit and had GSOD on stock drivers so I fortunately managed to return it and get refunded. In fact, I believed so much in Asus that I actually ordered a second unit, but returned that one too.

But seriously, I still come on this Asus forum board since the release of the G73(And because I owned one before), and I see more and more people having issues with their G73s and needing RMAs. Some unfortunate few even suffer through 2 RMAs without resolve!

I am angry with Asus for the dissapointments that many of you here have experienced and wonder if you all should just get organized, and file some kind of compliant against Asus for their G73Jh laptop. I understand that Asus normally makes reliable laptops, but for crying out loud, it's really unbelievable how many people are going through hell with very similar issues with this particular laptop model. It kind of reminds me of a ticking time bomb as you do not know when, if any,of the known issues will hit you..either today or some weeks down the road.

It's also unfortunate that in may instances, people who come across this laptop without any knowledge of this forum board, will purchase this laptop without knowing its common issues until it is too late...and than come to this forum board in their search for an answer.

It is unfair to put the consumer through 2-4 weeks of RMA when they believed in your product. Especially so if they use it for work too. If they continue to ship out these faulty laptops just so that they can increase their revenues at the expense of their customers, at least provide some kind of better on-site warranty service where a tech comes to your house to replace the parts and ensures a fix in a timely manner.

I have learned that when I purchase an item, it is not only the selling price that sells me, but more importantly, its the after-sales service that guarantees the sale. This is especially so for laptops. This is where I feel Asus drops the ball.

    Just my two cents.

I really hope your laptop issues will be resolved soon. Take care.

    Hello guys,

THX5334, man that seems like a horrible thing to go through. I completely agree with mobilezila.

My suggestion.....check this thread in Asus's official forums....if enough ppl reply to it, maybe, just maybe they will take notice of this.
