I haven't really heard about this machine until about a day ago, in which i stumbled upon it and started doing some research.

All I can say is WOW! I never thought such a high-end machine would be so affordable. I was stuck in my Dell cloud, thinking about/configuring a Dell Stuido XPS16, but I realize now that you can get wayyyyy more power in a g73 for about the same price as an studio xps!

I am still wondering which model to get though. I do not have a keen interest in a blue-ray drive, so would you guys recommend the A2 or X1 model?

Depends. The a2 model has an extra 500gb hard drive. I also think it comes with a free bag and mouse. I'd suggest A2.

Same here. I just recently ordered(shipped today) a G73 from powernotebooks.com (great customization options I would check them out). They also update/test all drivers, BIOS etc. before shipping you the product. From powernotebooks it even comes with free recovery disks(normally you have to make them yourself) Before stumbling upon the Asus G73 I was clueless on gaming devices and was looking at Alienwares. (I haven't bought a computer in 5 years, and the Asus is my first laptop) But once I did some research, I fell in love with the design, specs and of course price of a G73!

The only hard part is too have the patience to wait for my G73! :twitchy: ( should be delivered sometime next week)

I would go with the Blu-ray only because newer games seem to come on Blu-Ray discs or at least will begin coming on Blu-ray.

Also all 3 models of the G73 A series (A-1, A-2, & A-3) include the gaming mouse and carrying bag.You really can't beat the deal on the G73.

Good luck in your decision, hope this helps.

you also have the g73jh-rbbx05 from bestbuy. that one has a lower res screen, no bag, no mouse, almost no warranty, 1x hdd, less ram,

If you dont need the Blu-Ray i still suggest the A2 (you might miss the second hard drive bay especially if you get a SSD later, i think the warranty is better and you get the bacpack and mouse), and id reccomend you buy it from Gentech (or a similar company who will do all the things i mention) - they will really do everything you ask of them and make sure you dont get a defective one (bestbuy just ships the closed boxes they get, so the chance of getting a defective one if much higher there and RMAs take long and are sometimes unsuccessful with Asus). For me, they flashed the 209 bios (fixes keyboard latency, freezing and fan problems), flashed on a custom vBios (to prevent possible gsods, unlock overdrive and give me better poweplay), added free IC Diamond since i took a CPU upgrade to i7-820qm, gave me a free EU power plug, checked that there are no dead pixels and of course stress tested the whole machine to make sure it works perfectly.
And there are also some companies that already sell the i7-840qms, but be careful, since some of them ship ES/QS samples instead of the real OEM parts (since the OEM arent in stock yet at US distributers) and above that have the nerve to charge the OEM price (such a thing happened to one of the NBR members who ordered a i7-820qm from BTOTech for 400$, which seamed like a good deal, but when he ran CPU-z he found he received an ES sample which is not only very rude, but also higly illegal for a company to do that)!

Yes, i asked them and they did it for me, and if you want you can probably also ask them to use my vBios, since they already tested it. Talk to Ken (his nick on forums is GenTechPC). He replies fast and you can talk to him about every detail before even ordering.

I think so, since they sent it to Slovenia for me (real cheap and fast too) Canada should be no problem, just pm Ken and ask to make sure.

I just ordered the -A3 version of this laptop from Amazon.com. ($2K) It has Blue-ray and a small 4gig SSD to handle boot up chores. I'll post more about it once I get it in hand.

I just recently got my a1 a week ago.... loving it....
still need to try 10.6 drivers, but no problems so far (cept for fn and esc... i didn't get bios 209)

and for those getting the a3 if you could confirm whether both hdds are teh momentus xt hybrids or just one is a hybrid it would be appreciated...

I still have some finilizing on settings and such, but i have not even come close to maxing my cpu... and my gpu temps seem to max out at 95 celsius (seems to be norm for my ambient temp..... still working on getting the right monitoring software also for the temps...)

loveing it plays blu-rays great (bought powerdvd 10....) it hasn't stuttered in performance at all (do a clean install....comes with lotsa bloatware)
