Just trying to do a clean up of my laptop and had a few questions.

I do not have a restore disk or driver disk or have made one when I first got this laptop. So looking around I found that you could restore through a partion on the hard drive by booting up pressing f9. I backed up most of the files that I want to keep but I was wondering if the factory restore will change my bios back to the old version because I had loads of problems with it till I updated to the 213 bios. Also will I have to have the driver disk after it finishes restoring, because I can't find it anywhere. Do I need a windows cd?

Yes I noticed your list, but I read somewhere that you will need the driver disk for some drivers. If you tell me otherwise ill just go ahead and download what you recommended and go on with the restore.

So this is basically what im thinking how the process will go.

    F9 restore >
Restore (Can I choose the option to restore all partions to 1 drive? because mine is partioned with C and D but i only want C)>
Reboot and enter time settings computer name ect... >
desktop is booted use ARB windows recovery key thing >
Install all the drivers from your list that i put on a usb >
    and im good to go?

Currently the drivers I have work perfectly and I love how my desktop is but I have loads of useless programs and files everywhere and both partions are near only 10 gb of space and im sure I have a few viruses. I want everything to be how it is now but cleaned up so I have my hdd space back.

If you want the creative software, you'll need the recovery disc, same for power2go. However, that is only if you do a clean install, if you do a factory restore, you get everything. The rest is all available on the Asus website.

EDIT: Using the recovery partition, you don't need ABR or anything, all the drivers, software and windows activation are present on the recovery partition. You will have some bloatware uninstalling to do though, but that works well enough if you know what you want to trash and what you want to keep.

OHHH so basically ill have all the drivers from when I first booted is in the recovery? Ill probably just have to update Catalyst ? I remember getting vertical lines during gaming and I think I updated my video drivers to fix it.

Yep, you will have the laptop in the state it was when you first bought it.

Make sure you have everything backed up just in case. I've never had a factory restore give me problems, but being careful never hurt.

Yes! It restored it perfectly. Any tips on installing Catalyst 12.4 from restore? I remember going through way to many problems installing a newer catalyst. My screen res got messed up last time and I had to search for days to fix it.

    EDIT:

So I went ahead and tried installing it. PC Crashed BSOD and now i'm reliving the nightmare of the really small resolution. It's going to be one massive head ache fixing this...

Did you update your video bios back when the GSODs were a real pain?

    Yes.

Anyway I went into safe mode and ran driver sweeper and ccleaner.
I had DS remove all the ATI display drivers which I now believe was a bad mistake then I rebooted and tried installing 12.4 and got a few warnings. Now whenever I try to run CCC it gives me could not load file or assembly CLI.implementation instead of the first error I was getting which had something to do with not being able to change settings.

No I did not, but I did get the res back to 1600x900 just now by updating graphics driver via windows. I am going to try installing CCC following that guide.

Ok followed the guide and cleaned everything. During the process of installing CCC 12.4 I get "Windows requires a digitally signed driver"

Tell windows to install anyways, you should have that option, otherwise you could try another driver like 11.12 and then upgrade to 12.4.

I had it installed anyways and my screen res went down to 800 and whenever I try to run CCC it says host application stopped working. Ill try download 11.12 then upgrading to 12.4. Will be back with results.

Also thank you guys for your help.

Edit: cant find 11.12 so ill just download 11.4

11.4 worked perfectly everything is running good, but i'm wondering if I should try installing 12.4? I do game a lot and I heard 12.4 helps some things in Skyrim.

Personally, i never had any problems upgrading by installing the new driver on top of the old one. Some might argue that's not the way to go, but i've never experienced issues because of this.

You're welcome, i messed a lot with my G73 so i experienced a lot of the problems people are having overall. Makes the troubleshooting easy most of the time. I've had the ATI driver refusing to install while CCC installed properly for example.
