    Asus G73JH GSOD on boot

    Hello everyone,

    A month ago (April) i finally received my G73JH-A1. However my unit had the GSOD issue as well. But mine seems a bit harder to solve.

    My unit broke down with a GSOD within 12 hours of receiving it! The weird thing was that the GSOD popped up while the unit was just displaying my desktop. A 2D still image... so there was no load on the GPU at all.

    I have read a lot about this GSOD, PSOD etc. and it seems that a hard shutdown undoes the problem.
    But my unit refused to 'reset' his GSOD when i rebooted leaving me with a unfunctional unit. It was like it GSOD'ed on boot! Normally when you boot you get the Asus splash screen with a sound playing. This did not happen to me, i had a black screen with no sound playing. I have RMA'ed my unit already and am now waiting almost 2 months to receive a new one, it seems that there is a very little stoch of thys laptop in Belgium.
    But now my real question is: did someone experience the same issue as i did? And if so, have you been able to fix it?

    I would stay away from the G73 if possible. The problems are too widespread and happening to too many. There are many who has working G73's, but I would not take the risk.

    I use to have the G73-X3 model. I had GSOD two days into owning the laptop. I stuck with it for a week until I got a PSOD. I returned it and got me a desktop =)

    Nah. Just RMA it, the problem isn't the GPU with the PSOD, it's the LCD inverter.

    Thanks for the help everyone. I have already RMA'ed it like a month ago, still waiting to receive a new unit though...

    I agree. The attrition rate for parts failures is simply too high for a newly introduced laptop even if many received ones that seem to be initially problem free.

    Sadly, it is a fact that shoppers will always try to find the best value for their money spent, and for the G73's specs,it is a deal not very easy to pass up. I believe even if a person reads all the posts about the failures that could happen when purchasing this laptop, they would be willing to gamble that it does not happen to them as the temptation is just far to great with the price point Asus is selling this laptop at. Asus must have a brilliant marketing and financial team. It must be, that the influx of revenue made from the sale of these units out the door, far outweighs the costs of shipping tied to end users having to ship their units back for RMAs.

    If I purchased an item brand new, I should not have to deal with an RMA to fix it for something that does not work out of the box. Just return the item. An ethical reseller/retailer should accept the return, and order you a new one for replacement. They should not even ask you to send the unit in to Asus for RMA if it's within the return period unless you have some reason to hang on to the 'broken' unit. Remember, you paid good money for your laptop, and should expect it to work. The shortage of these units somehow has shifted the balance of power to resellers/retailers and not to customers when it comes to better business practices. Most are good about their policies, but watch out for the bad ones. You have your rights, use them.
