The issue I'm having with my keyboard, isn't as much about the keyboard itself, but what happens when I'm playing games. I noticed it when I was playing "Just Cause 2", a little window opened up in the corner and started showing all the buttons I was pressing, which caused the game to pretty much stop when I pushed a key repeatedly. This also happens when I play any game from Valve (Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, etc). I was wondering if anyone knew why this is happeneing, or would know a way to fix it? Thanks

Removing the language from the list and deleting the shortcuts fixed it for me. The chinese language issue has been present on asus laptops for a while now. I had the same problem on my N50V.

Wanted to add my own list of issues with the G73 keyboard...
As most people have, missed keystrokes has become a headache..even though i am not a very fast typist, i still end up spell checking every few words..
another issue..KEYBOARD FLEX...its really noticeable in the left bottom corner near the ctrl key. the ctrl key itself makes a different and loud click than the rest of the keys. i had the ram replaced to 1333mhz. and i figure the keyboard wasnt reseated properly.
Another issue.. the D, C, R,T Y keys kinda move crookedly upwards from their left top corner..kinda looks like they are gonna fall of or something. i AM actually worried that they might just do!!
have no idea what to do..RMA is kinda a not so favourable option since i live in Dubai and i bought it from an online reseller in US.. -
I don't have any similar issues with the rest of the keys though. -
buy a new keyboard replacement online?
-
My replacement keyboard wasn't as bendy as the original. There was still the missing keystroke issue but...
-
Missing keystrokes...i can live with that.. bending keyboard and moving keys..that is not exactly normal..
-
I cannot stand the missing keystroke issue. I am so mad at Asus over this. Just now I disabled the touchpad in BIOS as others have suggested in this thread. It does indeed clear up the issue. Not a single missed key since then. I hardly ever use the touchpad because I don't like them. Still, that's a pretty crappy solution.
-
This is crazy, I can't believe this problem hasn't been resolved by Asus yet. I just came back to the forums after about 2 months of being away, to see what progress had been made for my G73 (still dealing with keyboard lag, already missed about 4 or 5 letters while typing this paragraph).
I'm downloading the new Synaptics driver right now (released at the end of June) to see if it makes a difference. I still haven't tried disabling the touchpad at the BIOS level yet because I occasionally need to use the touchpad when I take my laptop places where I can't use a mouse...how do you guys get around that problem? Or do you only use your G73s in one spot, all the time?
Last resort will be to RMA the keyboard and see if a new one makes a difference, but from what it sounds like, this is still more of a software/driver-related issue. Can't believe Asus hasn't fixed this yet... -
-
Is it really the problem with the touchpad? I'm getting missed keystrokes all the time even with Fn+F9 disabling the touchpad although I think it does seem anecdotally better. I'm missing some keystrokes near the end of words etc. Maybe the conductor is not functioning on the keyboard. I'll try calling Asus RMA and tell them to send me a new keyboard. I could try finding that application which disables the touchpad when you are typing something - perhaps that'll fix the lag issues
-
You might want to check this post in the Asus Forum here

I hate this keyboard lag. Its nothing major, but it really is a huge turnoff for alot of gamer enthusiasts. I am a really fast typer, not sure how many words per minute, but this post alone took me 30 seconds to type up. The spacebar is the one thats missing the most.
Also, can someone tell me how to turn on the backlite for the keyboard? would not work, when I press "F3", the text search bar comes up. What does the Fn key do? I haven't manually installed any drivers or anything. I am willing to disable the Touchpad. Can someone help me? F9 wouldn't work for me either. -
Don't you have to hit Fn+F4?
-
After installing the "new"-old touchpad drivers, I had originally thought that the problem was remedied but after a few days and typing a lot of long documents, I notice that it is not better at all. What I have tried:
1. Disabling touchpad in bios - no missing keystrokes at all
2. Using updated touchpad drivers (from Synaptics) - no improvement
3. Using newest ATK drivers from Asus - no improvement
4. Updated to newest bios - no significant improvement
5. Using default windows drivers for touchpad - no improvement
6. Disabling touchpad in windows (alt-fn method) - no improvement
7. Keyboard replacement - no improvement
8. Scraping down contacts on keyboard ribbon (referred to in earlier post) - no improvement - this was before the keyboard replacement
It is a niggly little thing - I am going back to disabling the touchpad in the bios and just using my external mouse which I usually use anyways but it certainly would be nice to occasionally use the touchpad when I moving the laptop to different locations and don't want to carry the mouse with me. -
But the Fn+F9 combo doesn't work for me. What if I dont have access to mouse? How would I turn on the touchpad then? Can someone help me...? -
-
-
@Shrink: This issue is niggly like the GSOD issue. Some have it, some do not. I know my keyboard doesn't have that issue.
-
-
OK! So we know it's working. So you must have a SOFTWARE issue.
First, download latest ATK Package.
Make sure you first uninstall the old set.
This should re-enable the FN keys and get your light enabled. The blue bar light should also be on. If not, use the top-left key to cycle through the lighting options to get it on, then use Fn+F4 to enable Keyboard Lights.
After that, you should rep me and a few random people in joyous ecstasy. -
My keyboardlight not flash on start up
Did it hardware failure?
My orginal bios206(KB light worked) then change to bios209(KB light dead) -
If it doesn't flash on boot, then the lights aren't being initialized by the motherboard. Only known solution thus far is to RMA and replace the mobo. Sorry.
-
I downloaded the wrong package, I downloaded VISTA! I R FAIL -
Would you like a FAIL WHALE?

just wanted to point this out if it hasn't been already.
Seems like asus has had this problem before

This problem has been around since their 2007 models and theyve done nothing in 3 YEARS...
Send PMs to Asus Customer Care (here on the forums), since they finally said theyre collecting reports (though im very skeptical theyll actually do anything since they havent done anything by now, probably just posted to get us waiting longer again while they sit back and do nothing...).
You must include:
1: Laptop Model
2: Specifications
3: ATK driver version
4: Synaptics driver version
Flood them with PMs, so hopefully someone there will see its by no means an isolated incident and start doing something!
Acer also had this problem a while back, but their users got an official fixed Synaptics driver for them, while we got nothing after over 3 years of problems! -
"Send PMs to Asus Customer Care (here on the forums)"
Where's that again? -

Hey All,
I stumbled on this forum because since I bought my otherwise-exceptional G51JX, I've suffered with the problem of the touchpad drivers causing keyboard lag.
Today, that issue seems to be solved, thanks to the recommendation to use the 14.0.10 drivers mentioned here. The same driver is NOT posted on the driver page for my particular laptop. Having noticed that Synaptics seems to release just one driver, I tried the one mentioned here, and voila, it did the trick!
I tested it on play.typeracer.com, which is where I've experienced the greatest keyboard lag for some reason, and I was able to hit 135wpm, no problem.
I'm very pleased to say that I no longer have to uninstall my touchpad drivers in order to be able to type on my laptop.
For those who may still be suffering from the same problem with my laptop....
Come check out this page to find a fix for the G51JX keyboard lag problems associated with the Synaptics Touchpad Driver, and find version 14.0.10.0 of the Synaptics driver; in my case I used the one on the asus page for the G73JH.
I'll keep y'all posted if I see a change, but so far, things look good!
EDIT: The very next test I did after this one, I experienced the issue again, so it's not yet solved, but I can say that the experience is improved over other versions of the driver -
So as a recap there is only two solutions: Removing the Synaptics drivers or disabling the touchpad in BIOS.
I'm currently using the notebook with the Synaptics driver removed and the keyboard response has improved noticeably.
Has anyone tried with different settings fo the driver?
I wouldn't want this to be another post like the aboveclaiming having found a solution then coming back to say it didn't work after all. But so far I am not noticing any lag or missing presses.
-
EDIT1: So the most important missing feature of the Synaptics driver would be the touch guard. I am trying this alternative and seems it's doing it's job: touchfreeze - Project Hosting on Google Code install it and it just works.
Also this: Disable Your Touchpad When You're Typing with AutoHotkey , but couldn't be bothered setting up AutoHotKey for now so I'll may try it later.
Yeah. I think I had a couple of missing keystrokes without the Synaptics driver; but this time it is really much much less frequent. Also I can just notice it: typing does seem more responsive.
Anyone knows of a similar feature to emulate middle mouse button press? If I had that without the Synaptics driver I wouldn't need the driver anymore. -
I certify my method works. At least for me. Have been working for a couple of hours with virtually no missing letters and still using the touchpad comfortably.
I did miss a couple of strokes here and there but they are so few and I'm still getting used to the keyboard that I believe those are of my own doing.
So this is a Synaptics/ASUS software issue. As some wise man said: "Get your lazy ASUS to work, ASUS". -
Thanks but been there/done that (it was posted earlier in this thread). It did not help significantly nor did a keyboard replacement with new ribbon cable.
-
Anyone have a good link for a keyboard replacement, other than the standard full dissassembly vid? Mine's warped so I'm switching it out, but I'd love to see the process from another aspect than a dude who can rip his out and not worry about it. Lol, wish this did fix I/O issues, but oh well, at least I'll have a shoddy typing system with a better looking keyboard. Still though, a big GG to Asus for all of this...simply unjustifiable how this isn't fixed yet.

Hi all,
recently i have purchased asus g73jh laptop. It seems that i got some issues with couple of key. " and ~ keys. These keys do not work with first press. I have to press them twice to display key stroke and when i press couple of times to get output these keys print as "" and ~~ (repeating twice).
Had anyone experience similar issues before? If yes is there a way to resolve this issue. I have disabled by touch pad completely and i don't have any lag while typing. The only issue is repetition of keys and not printing of these two keys. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
cheers

DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS OVER THIS AND DO NOT RMA YOUR LAPTOP! It is a simple Windows setting.
This happens because you have set up your keyboard Layout to be United States-International. That layout allows you to type foreign characters like ñ, or ü which are typed by first pressing ~ then n or " and then u, respectively.
Since ~, ' and " are used to create other characters you have to press " then space to write a double quote or ~ then space to write a tilde.
Anyway, if your keyboard layout is set to United States-International and you don't need those characters, change it to plain United States using the language bar or language settings in Windows. -
oh btw, almost exactly 6 MONTHS since this thread started... it's just eye-opening sometimes to see just how slow of a process "progress" can be.
-
Wow, this sounds pretty bad. I really cannot decide which gaming laptop to buy now. The G73 has all these keyboard issues, and I am a writer and type all day. I need a laptop for gaming and writing in equal measures.
In addition, I find the whole chicklet keyboard to be terrifyingly uncomfortable to type on because of the short-throw of the keys and lack of feedback. It doesn't even feel lke typing to me on those keyboards. -
I like typing on it just fine. You will find that you will adjust rather quickly. I even bought the Logitech Illuminated keyboard because I like the scissor-switched keys.
-
Chastity: that keyboard is excellent. I have it for my desktop and just love it.
