Asus G73JH Keyboard Light Failure

Hi all,

I know there is a old thread on this but unfortunately all the links don;t work and I was hoping someone has the kblightsfix.rar file to repair this.
My keyboard lights have suddenly stopped working and no longer flash when my laptop boots up. I was running the later bios 2.11 and updated to 2.13 with no success. I also uninstalled my ATK driver package and installed the latest one but no success. When I press Fn + f3 or f4 nothing happens and no symbol comes on the screen. The other hotkey functions work and show the symbol on the screen.
Appreciate if someone is able help.

I am confused why it stopped. I have a back up hdd with the original Win 7 pro restore image and put that in, did a factory reset and still no lights. Keyboard not even flashing at boot up. Has anyone else seen this? Could it be the actual keyboard has failed where the second led ribbon attaches? Cheers

 

Yeah, that was what the keyboard fix above was supposed to address. It works for some people. You don't need to reinstall anything to rule out software/drivers, you could just try a linux live image from a USB stick because the G73-era keyboard lights have been supported for a long time. Good luck!

 

Great. Really helpful and gives me some confidence as once you start using a lighted keyboard it is much easier on the eyes.
Could you please explain the linux live image (if possible) as never used linux. Thanks

 

Here are a couple of tools that will download an OS image and write a bootable USB stick:

I'd go with Ubuntu if you are new to Linux. When you boot from the USB stick just choose the 'boot ubuntu without installing' option or whatever it's called now. Cheers

No, the fix is run from a DOS environment on a bootable DOS USB stick. It can't run under any other OS.

Just to be clear -- the file above involves a firmware hack from an ASUS employee. It writes to the embedded controller (EC) part of the BIOS. So once you have run it once, it will apply no matter what OS or software you are running. Think of it like a type of BIOS update or patch (and with the same level of risk involved).

I am happy to report that it worked!! 7C appeared on screen, powered down and waited 10 secs. Very pleased and thanks again ALLurGroceries for your assistance and of course to Gary for this file!

This saved my day. Thanks so much to who created this fix, even though the fix was for G73jh.

I had my ASUS G73SW with no backlit keyboard working for 2 years, never workerd after updating windows 10 (I always founded so many issues on that windows) I had updated Drivers, I cleaned the connections, everything and yet nothing. It is crazy, that somehow windows or who knows what programs or drivers altered the BIOS.

I followed all the instructions, booted my USB driver and executed “fixmykb” pressed Enter and then the result was 7C “CODE=0” or something (sorry I don’t remember well) after that I turned off my laptop, waited about 10 secs and turn it on again and voila, the keyboard flashed on the boot, it never did before for 2 years. (((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o)))

 

This worked like a charm on ASUS G73SW. Thanks for the files and Gary Key.
