I just ordered a replacement power adapter for my Asus G73jh from a third party company. I found the link on this website but I just wanted to ask, has anyone else bought a third party charger for this laptop yet? Mine recently fried or just melted, it was 106 degrees that day and my brother was using it but wasn't really doing much outside of web browsing.

The adapter is listed at having 19v~7.9aoutput 150w and 100-240 input etc. The only thing that bothers me is the voltage output being 19 and 19.5 as listed on the original adapter brick will this be an issue? Is there a better third party charger I should buy that outputs more power if that is the issue with an adapter over heating?

I don't see the link where you bought it, but I have bought two 3rd party AC adaptors for my G72GX and neither one worked. They worked fine as long as I was doing basic stuff, but as soon as I started graphics work, the computer started rapidly switching from the adaptor to the battery and fried the adaptors in short order. If you find an answer to this problem, let me know as I have been unable to buy a replacement from ASUS yet (out of stock).

Here is the ebay link AC Adapter Power Cord Asus G71G G71V G72G G72Gx G73Jh - eBay (item 220655338583 end time Sep-15-10 08:58:37 PDT)

What was the wattage and amp differences on your original adapter and the one you bought? I think the problem might lie in that if there are any differences. Kind of stupid that Asus is out of stock of both your model and my model's replacement adapters and apparently you can't get them anywhere else. I was really pleased with my laptop too but if this is the kind of support you get after buying the system (replacement parts become impossible to get) I think I'll stick with the more expensive wider spread companies for my next machine sigh.

It specifically says it's a match for the G73JH so it should work fine.

Thanks for your link. My original ASUS adapter had a broken wire right at the tip after only 3 months use. I cut it open to repair it. It worked for a while but finally shorted out and burned up the brick.

I followed your link and ordered one. This adapter is much better than the original. It is built better, runs cooler and has more power. And the price is great!

For people worried about the half a volt difference...don't. This replacement works like a champ and the battery is in the 14.5 volt range so there is plenty of voltage available to peak the battery.

I am ordering another one today....so I don't have to move one around back and forth between office and home and I know I will at least have another spare. The factory one is not as good and 4x the price.

PS...this one has a nice pouch that is included as well!!!

I wonder if anyone has another power brick alternative.
The centrix site Chastity mentions is out of stock on the Targus adapter, and the Targus site itself doesn't mention it at all (they only list 90W adapters) which leads me to believe that they may no longer be making these.
I have two g73jh's and one of them fried a brick last night. :( Have not found anything suitable to replace it, most adapters are specifically for other laptops or are too low in wattage to work.

Just throwing this out there for the whole devil's advocate thing. I'm terrified of Targus adapters. I've had 3 (bought at various times for various laptops), and each of them literally got to the point where they were running so hot they couldn't be picked up. One of them killed a previous laptop of mine (too much power, blackened my motherboard).

I've heard they're fine, but just sharing my experience with them.

Sounds to me the units were underpowered for the laptop they were connected to, and you stressed them to death.

Just for the heck of it, I checked what the shipping would be to Florida. $10.65 for UPS ground up to $101.36 for next day air.

Maybe you can get a better price on shipping if you call in. Those prices are whacked.

Not really sure why you'd do this. So it stays cooler? That's like rigging an extra fan up to gpu. The product is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Redundancy is just a waste of time...

When I'll get in my home country, I'll cover the AC adapter with used aluminum heat sinks - older cpu, gpu etc. It should dissipate the heat faster..

Yeah, but there's a point where it doesn't matter anymore. And for the AC adapter, that point is still pretty hot.

    Chastity -

The last link you supplied for the Targus power adapter links to a site selling refurbished units.
Is this what you have bought/would buy, or did you link to it when they were selling new units?
