Just woke up this morning and my G73JH just starts up in repair mode. I'm guessing something unlucky got corrupted? I try to run in Safe Mode to system restore but safe mode also just go to system repair. Is there a way to get to system restore? Or I will just have to wait out the system repair loading bar? It's been 15mins now and nothing.

I had the same problem once. I had to do a clean install. It kept coming up with some kinda error where some dll file was missing and it just wouldn't boot up.

Yup same as me it happened after a lockup for me restarted and it couldn't find the HDD then just kept going into system repair for like 20 minutes and then saying it couldn't repair the OS.

Afraid your going to have to do a factory.

F9 is factory right? Got into Asus Preload Wizard, it gives me 3 options:

Recover Windows to first partition only.

    Recover Windows to entire HD.

Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.

I don't understand which one to pick.

    I would say entire hdd
unless your partitioned and have important things on it then first only
not sure about the two one though

Yup. Do a clean install. Preferably using a windows disc and download all the latest drivers off Chastity's page. Using the F9 partition, you'll reinstall the bloatware.

I'd try to fix the MBR first if I were you. Boot from the install disc. Get to the part that lets you start the command prompt. Once you have the prompt open type:

    bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    bootrec.exe /fixboot

    then restart.

This works for me all the time when I have a situation like you describe. It's usually from adjusting the size of the primary partition, or after doing a backup restore after wiping my SSD clean.

More info how to do this can be found here: How to Fix Windows 7 When It Fails to Boot

No BIOS is ROM (read only memory) the only way to change the BIOS is by flashing.

Uninstall Trend Micro, Auto-Update, and Web Storage, and Splendid

Run the Windows Color Calibration Wizard

Update your Intel INF with -overall to get all the components on the same build

Update Wifi and LAN, plus Realtek Audio + HDMI drivers.

Update ATK if you have any weirdness.

I had the problem on an Asus U47a that was simply improperly shutdown (power cut by holding power button for 4 seconds while in Windows 7).
Turned it back on and no matter what, if I pressed F8 as the bootloader for Windows 7 started, I tried 'last known good config', 'safe mode with networking', 'repair computer', 'boot normally' and it all went back to the Asus recovery wizard or whatever it's called.

My only thought (thanks to JacobCoy9 of Computerhope) is that it thinks that a restore DVD is in the drive as you are booting. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...h-doing-clean-windows-7-install.html#recovery

I couldn't boot into Windows to look at the registry to see why that wizard was starting up. I tried a couple of my Windows 7 64-bit bootable DVDs but none would open the Windows Startup Repair utility, said it was incompatible with the installed version of Wndows for some reason.
So after some trial and error I found out about the Lazesoft Recovery Suite home edition bootable CD. I downloaded it, installed it, had it create a bootable WinPE CD for me and then after booting I tried 'fixmbr' but that didn't fix the problem.
Next I clicked on the 'registry recovery' option, it took only a second or two and then it was done. Restarted and now the laptop works fine, boots into Windows fine and also Safe Mode fine if I tell it to. However, if I choose the 'repair computer' option after pressing F8, it will still go to the Asus recovery wizard, instead of the Windows Startup Repair program.

I'm not sure where it got the previous version of the Registry from, maybe from a System Restore point.
