    Dear G73JH owners,

I read a couple of threads here as I'm also experiencing issues with stock ATi drivers (I bought my system in Hungary, it's the TZ008Z version).

I decided to get in touch with Asus support via their VIP site which is available to all owners after a simple product registration.

I must say I was surprised regarding the quick and local responses (I'm in Hungary which is not one of the major EU markets), I hope the below will help a bit those who are waiting for Asus to release a new official driver for the G73JH (the latest one available is based on 10.1 catalyst and was released in April). I'm not really worried anyway as I use this system mainly for work (I needed the quad core cpu and the 8gigs of DDR3-1333 ram) and I only had some issues when I was working with two virtual machines and watching a 1080p youtube video in the external display (all cores were close to 100% and the screen froze twice - so I'm suspecting that the ATi was generating too much heat while the system was overclocked using the built-in twinturbo mode).

    Hello

I have ordered my G73 also in Hungary (haven't received it yet). Does it have a warranty seal on the bottom or you can freely change the HDDs? (I wouldn't be surprised, if there was a seal knowing Hungary...) Have you updated to BIOS 209 already? (If yes, did you have any problems, keyboard lights still work)?
You mentioned yours came with 1333 RAM, I thought the Hungarian version supposed to come with 1066. You are either lucky or know something I don't.

Anyway, thanks for the post regarding VGA driver updates.

A lot of the G73's were built with 1333 RAM since there was a shortage. I would guess there is still a decent chance of getting the 1333 but realistically there is no discernable difference in the speeds.

I updated my VGA driver to Catalyst 10.5 today from the default driver. Played 3 hours of Splinter Cell Conviction, so far so good.
Oh and I still have BIOS 206, don't see any reason yet to update to 209. Also, maybe its just me but my temps are the same as with the default VGA driver, at some points maybe even better.

What're the benefits of those over the current 10.5's? I'm not familiar with Tweakforce as the laptop world is still pretty new for me.

They try to provide more IQ, or detail and quality without any additional performance hit. Sometimes they have improvement on performance, and overall stability. Also if there is a feature for only desktop, it will be available for mobile also, usually.

They haven't had mobile cats in a long time, but the owner of the site now has a W90 so he's interested in Mobile Catalyst himself.

Nice. I'll be looking for those tomorrow then. I may have to hold off on installing them till next week, since I'll need the laptop for business and can't be monkeying around with drivers or BIOS updates till afterwards.

Since my laptop is for personal usage, I throw caution to the wind and monkey with drivers at will!

Mine came with BIOS 206 and I had no issues updating it to 209 from a flash drive (keyboard lights still work). Also the RAM is showing up as 1333 and you can open the hard drive covers - I swapped one of the 500GB Seagate drives with an SSD.

My only main issue was possibly due to overheating - ever since going back to Asus 10.1 and not doing so many things in parallel do unit did not freeze so far - I'm quite satisfied with it right now.
