Whenever I launch Battlefield Bad Company 2, it loads the game pretty fast (cause of my SSD), but when the game really starts and you get the choice between the different classes & weapons, as soon as you Enter the battlefield, it freezes (laggs with 0-3 fps) for about 10 seconds. It nerve-wracking!. I know its not supposed to do that...
So does anyone know what might be causing this ?
PS: I also get micro-stuttering in Black ops. And when it loads, its stuck for 10 seconds when it says "waiting for players". You can tell its stuck cause nothing happens.. ( and cause it didnt lagg some time before)![]()

ati drivers.
As I keep saying, the more they update them, the more our 5870 suffers, specially DX9 games.
Yet nobody seems to care about what I say...
Either your revert back to 10.4, or you keep those affliction.
I know what I am talking about because I tested and looked for nearly every ati release and checked every forum.
I even run XP 64 to play black ops at nearly steady 77Fps in every situation with max setting.
Curiosity:
How many fps do you get int his point of the map CRACKED (defaul map, no DLC, in combat training?)

Those are mine with 11.8 (as usual, I test every release in hope of improvements) -
PS: what settings were you using in blackops ? -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
How come that the hd5870m runs BO so badly?
Its absurd that I'm getting 40fps more with my gtx460m,1080p,4xAA maxed out. -
Black Ops is a very poorly done and very poorly optimized game. Using it as reference for anything is...dumb. That said, I reinstalled it yesterday and it ran perfectly fine. I've noticed no performance decrease at all in most of my games even on the latest drivers.
-
Over Nvidia you are even recommended to increase AA to get BETTER performance, because as KURO said, the game is a poor porting, and COD itself anyway, relay more on the CPU than the GPU:
So with the two things combined, it runs worse on ATI than nvidia.
Notice that 77 is a limit I wanna use, because COD is based on a bugged engine:
Doing 77 FPS give your character speed/jump boost over 90 80 100 110 or whatever isn't 125 fps, which I cannot achieve with my graphic setting, nor in windows 7, nor in windows Xp.
The real FPS anyway changes regard the os and are higher:
Seven, from low 40 up to 100
XP, from low 60 up to 125/150 inside buildings.
My setting in black ops are:
1980x1020, maxed aniso, no AA, texture EXTRA, shadows enable, shadow warming disabled, bullet impact enabled, Field of view Maxed out.
Then I have a couple of fixed done in my config, in order to use Shader model 3, cap the fps to 76 (the games generate 77) and to fix the packets I send to the server in order to match the FPS I made, plus the water simulation disabled, because if you played MW2 over am ATI card, you should know that FPS used to drop from 110+ to 25 with this value enabled on certain maps...
Again... thanks ATI and Infinity Ward for the love your share...
If you wanna more I can email you my config, or explain something else in pvm.
Then I agree with you that other games run fine, like Dirt 3... or left for dead, and I believe that Shogun 2 Total War has some FPS boost with latest driver... yet I made just one hour gameplay because I am disappointed by the low FPS output with high setting and I did not want to mess up...
The more I thinker, the more I wish I had Nvidia some times...
PPS:
You can keep the whole 11.8 package, CCC and others with the 10.4 Display Drivers:
This will enable you to have older driver but new interface.
Cheers. -
I personally use 10.5a modded drivers from TWL and have no issues with any game so far. Maybe a little lag in BC2 from the server problem. That's all. -
-
Same thing happens to me and i run 10.4. Join a server , any server and the first few seconds are lag. After that tho i get a steady 60-70 fps on high.
-
instead I get this problem with latest drivers and hulawafu if you read I caps the FPS at 77, AND it won't be steady anyway...
People here do not read... -
I don't really have these experiences on BC2. The only bad FPS scenarios I get on medium settings with 1080p is when I get helicopter bombarded while on foot and a bunch of sand and smoke surrounds me, it's momentary and doesn't really matter because I'm usually dead anyway. Other than that I get pretty good FPS on BC2 even while recording with Fraps.
-
I've had 0 issues with BFBC2 when running the two newest ATI drivers. 30-40FPS with everything maxed while recording with Fraps...
The worst FPS and 3dMark results I've had were running the stock drivers from Asus, and even then it was only slower by a couple percent. -
ok, did another test with the official release of the 11.8 drivers
ok
tested the official one over the beta:
About BO, there is an improvement, yet it is not the same FPS compared to 10.4, but indeed it is very close, still, it tends to stutter at early game.
here the screen shots, NOTICE THE FPS in the RIGHT upper corner
11.8 official
11.8 beta
10.4 ccc
Windows XP 10.4
About bad company:
I tested out the new 11.8 as well:
It seems to be more stable besides a bit of early lag, maybe it is the server thing that was mentioned before?
Gonna test more, but I can say that the 11.8 is the best build so far after the 10.4/10.5a (at least for my usage)
Battlefiedl BC2 instead -
though does not do it on my g51, though my g51 laggs badly because of the dual core -
.
-
Yet I am pretty sure that when the game was release there were not such HEAVY drops, and it looked more like on XP for us with a quad core, then patches cames... and screwed us ATI user..
Now I am curious to see a NVIDIA USER on those places
Which driver were you on btw? -
Can't wait for BF3 tbh..
