I ran into a strange problem with my JH it has now restart nor shutdown. If i press suhtdown or restart the machine starts to do what i hasked and then just goes black and stays like that. Fans, lights, screen blacklight are ON. But no restart nor shutdown. Have to force it to shutdown....but strange is after is start it up again i get no error. Remind me of the old computer when they said " It is now safe to turn off the computer" and then you had to press the button .

Found some info on a dell forum that it might be some hardware not powering down (Dell had a problem with the soundcard)

Anyone here had the same problem ?

    Nop Video works OK.

The problem started after the notebook ran on the battery and then went to hibernate as the plug was in the notebook but i did not plug the other end in.

CClean did nothing to fix the problem. Funny thing is when the blackskreen is on the notebook works. If i but a CD in the BR-DVD player spins up. It seems that someting is stopping it from shutting down.

One thing i know i forgot to do is the realtek audio driver. Think im still on the factory driver

PS. When using system recovery then i get a propper restart. Going to test safemode too.

DH48 have you checked event viewer for errors? Also when it hangs do you see any activity on the HDD light (next to wireless on the front)?
If you have any USB devices connected try removing B4 shutdown or restart.

Do you have a system image you can restore the OS from?

Safemode work like it should. Restarts and shuts down.

    Hmm last errors are

    Dhcp-Client 2 errors
    Service Control manager 18 errors

Hmm and if i look into it more it says a device connected to the system is no functioning. Hmm it seems my wifi is dead (malfunctioning) as all the error are network related
    TCI/IP
    DNS
etc all have the error device not functioning

Hmm ok notebooks does not boot with battery anymore  Freeze at right after windows load screen.

Try disabling ASUS fast boot, (switch any delayed programs to off) or uninstalling it. FBagnent = Asus Fast boot.

Are you running a clean install of windows ?

OK i think i know whats up. Not even sleep and hibernate is working (but work in safe mode). The only thing i installed was NB probe yesterday and that might have messed up something.

Nothings seems to help. I uninstalled all the asus crap dissabled all programs that could effect it but still nothing.

Strange part is that the restore part was disabled even though windows has it enabled by default so cant go back to. Seems that the only way to go is a fresh install. :(

I hate to say it but I agree, I would wait maybe someone has a better idea. Once you get it sorted create a full image to an external hard drive for easy recovery - 2 good free solutions - windows 7 backup - or Paragon 12 free

Did a full format of all the drives and then used the recovery DVD-s created by the ASUS tool as it seems i have lost the disk it got with the notebook.

    4 DVD-s to recover ?

But it did the trick :) after uninstallig all the crap (The clean install did not work for me as it did not ask for the utility disk). I got restart and shutdown again :) ...now have to set the recovery point.

OK the problem came back....and i figured it out what it is.
The problem came back right after i installed my razer Orochi firmware update. When i installed it i got a error that the firmware is from a unknown source (Downloaded from razer site) anyway it asked to restart and after the restart i did no longer sleep, hibernate, shutdown nor restart. Strange is i uninstalled it and it did not help put after i uninstalled the CCC and ati driver i got to restart it again.....i know what ppl think ...its the ati driver and GPU ....well for a second i would have agreed but after installing the CCC and driver again i have been able to do 4 restarts with no problem....and still works ....so it could have been the firmware making the notebook not sleep :/ ..... Ill keep away from the Orochi for now and install other stuff so see if the fault comes back.
