So I am unsure what exactly the issue is and I am hoping for a bit more insight. I have looked at some of the other threads and it seems like it could be many of different issues going on.

So the freezing will randomly happen and the sound then loops making a funky sound. Not the computer itself but the noise the speakers make. Now I do nothing special to make it happen. Sometimes it will lock up while I am watching Hulu, playing a game, or just after boot while it is loading all the programs.

First off it is a best buy laptop.

From what I can tell the graphics driver I have is 8.683.0.0 from 2009. I think this may be the issues but unsure. And if it is, I don't know what to update too. OR if this even the right thing to look at. I found this in device manager.

Realtek High Definition Audio says it is versian 6.0.1.5978 under programs and features.

I have all the windows 7 x64 updates but I didn't apply the hotfix.

So any advice on what I should do and in what order.

It sounds like you might be getting a GSOD. The best fix for that would be to reflash the vBIOS(if you haven't already) as well as the system BIOS, and get the latest ATI drivers. I did that and it cleared up my GSOD issues as well as gave me a bit of a performance boost.

    Good luck!

If the sound loops, the issue is probably sound driver related. Get th latest realtek drivers from here: G73 Series Driver and Application Reference and upate them.

If you haven't done so already, update the bios and vbios. Make sure to read carefully on how to do it.

I second the vBIOS and BIOS update. Click my GSOD link below to get the current vBIOS version numbers, or the Driver Reference link.

Well after I updated the sound driver I have yet to crash. I have also upgraded the graphics drivers to 11.5. I then OC'd my grahpics card to 705 and 1100 but sometimes the screen goes black for about 15 seconds when gaming and then comes back not GSOD. So I am going to do the bios and vbios update. I understand the bios update using the flash drive and all btu what exactly is the vbios?

Also, what exactly would updating my core drivers do? And how do I see what version I have now?

Edit: Well, I used the auto install thing that you have in your link and all seems well, so that is a go. But I am still wondering what exactly it improves.

Edit2: So, after installing the core drivers i decided I would update the bios, I was already at 209, but I went up to 213 anyways. I then updated the vbios to the newest one by you. After awhile of playing my game, I can say no crashes. No random FPS drops, No black screens, no gray screens, no lines. Seems like everything is running great! :D

A quick question actually, now when I use the AMD GPU clock it stats that it is at 405, and if i set it to 700 or so the i start getting issues again so what is up or down with this?

The new vBios downclock the GPU when you're don't need the GPU at full strength. It will revert back to 700 as soon as you launch a game. What do you mean you start getting issues again?

...and if you want it to just stay at 700, disable PowerPlay.

    Nurama,

I was having this problem with my Asus G73JW, and I tried EVERYTHING. Here's what worked:

    Uninstall Power4Gear Hybrid and NBProbe.

I think P4G is causing the crashes somehow. Since I uninstalled this 10 days ago, I have had a few hangs, but they resolve within 30 to 60 seconds, whereas before, they would never resolve. I think the P4G program is causing the computer to shut off HDDs, CPU, or put cptr into sleep mode, and is not interfacing well with Windows Power Settings. My best guess as to why.

Let me know if this works.

What version of P4GH were you using? Any version past .37 is meant for later models.

Another new issue arose, after installing the windows update I on 6/14/11 the laptop now freezes during login or directly afterwords. Also when I try to do a system restore it goes through the process but it doesn't complete and I could repeat the process forever.

Have you tried an earlier System Restore point?

I have had the same problem. It has something do do with Power4Gear. All you have to do is uninstall it and reinstall it. After doing this I haven't froze anymore.

I think I've seen this problem occur on any computer when the hard drive clicks.
