Well, I have Asus G73 coming my way...

I got a 24" Samsung screen which has a full 1080p ... The lap top also has Full HD...

The monitor has a DVI , and the lap top has HDMI ...

My question is what would be the best HDMI to DVI cable, because I read that there is 1080p cables, and I have seen ten milion types of them on Amazon ???

Is there anyone that you could recomend?

    Thank you

monoprice is the best place for cables. Don't buy the hype - digital signals are 1s and 0s, so signal strength doesn't matter so long as it reaches the target ... and so the composition of the wires doesn't matter either (read: never pay more than $15 for an HDMI cable, no matter how much gold is in it).

Well, I use to think the same thing, but now know that's not entirely true in all cases. While I not saying the cable ViciousXUSMC listed is bad, there are cases where better constructed and therefore expensive HDMI cables can make a difference.

As long as the cable is rated for the intended use, you should be good to go. The ones I use are rated for 1.3c spec.

I have honestly contemplated starting a business where I park a van outside BestBuys and sell monoprice cables to people for 50% off the $50 price they charge inside. I'd make a killing...

All I'm saying is, there are cases where better constructed and therefore more expensive HDMI cables can make a difference. Is this always necessary? No. For example, you probably won't see any difference with anything under 8 feet. And, certified doesn't guarantee you will always get what you thought you were purchasing. It's not like the cables are independently certified.

The better constructed cables are ... by definition ... better constructed. You can get a monoprice cable that is constructed the same as a monster cable (same shielding, etc ... but without the fancy plugs) and it'll work the exact same.

Yes, on occasion an expensive cable will out perform a cheap cable. But a well constructed cable (from any source) is always better. You'll always get a well constructed cable from monster ... but pay 10-20x more. You'll usually get a well constructed cable from monoprice, providing you buy the $10 cord, not the $2 one.

Bumping this in hopes of getting back to the original question. I also have a DVI only monitor I want to use with my g73. Has anyone used a HDMI to DVI cable successfully? I know some devices will not tolerate these cables as they may break the digital security rules of the HDMI protocol. Even if the cable does work you lose audio, has anyone had luck with the HDMI to DVI with a sound output (either 1/8" or toslink)?

    Thanks.

Yes it will work fine. The encryption is part of the protocol and independent of the physical media.
