hello, ive got a g73jh-b1 and i repasted it with icd7, the turbo boost monitor NEVER every hits close to 2.93, highest ive seen it is at 2.5 ghz.. even while running prime 95.
what should i do?

if no, you have your connetor that is unproperly fitted... You just have to remove the keyboard (no screws), and put properly the wires (the ones that are next to the connector of speakers, or just under the "P" key.)... do it slowly and with care... (you don't have to take off the palmrest)
If it's ok, I sugger you check your performance tab or your performance profile or your power4gear utility... -
And do you have Power4gear at all installed?
That is needed for the animated logo

im taking about the Intel Turbo Boost Monitor- it speeds up your cpu when it is needed- mines goes from 1.73 ghz-2.93.
it doesnt reach 2.93ghz even at full load only 2.5.
the twin turbo button works fine: the animation comes up but i have it diasbled: its only good for single threded applications: im not talking about the TWIN TURBO BUTTON,
im taking about Intel Turbo Boost monitor. -
i found some strange readings too

speed of processor at full load = 1596mhz

Deleted what I originally wrote. Just saw now that you have an I7-740QM, which should go up to 2,93 GHz with 1 core loaded.
Can you verify the numbers with CPU-Z?
Just checked the intel documents. With load on two cores, the clock is limited to 2,53 GHz. Seems to me that this might be the issue here.
For completeness, 3 cores = 1,86 GHz, 4 cores = 1,86 GHz. -
The turbo boost gadget is the problem not anything to do with your system.
I think it was the earlier version that did not read the boost correctly and as you say only when one core is loaded will it hit 2.93ghz which is going be rarely. I do not think I have ever seen my 2760QM hit 3.5ghz even though it should do on 1 core you need to disable the other cores to see it on the gadget.
I find 2.0 turbo technology gadget gives me the best readings not the newer or the original one. -
You will almost never see your CPU clock at full speed, the multipliers always change depending on the load and windows 7 likes to distribute the CPU load on multiple cores whenever it can.
For example, in the attached picture, i'm running quite a few programs that are non intensive, none the less, the load is distributed on multiple cores by the OS. Note that i have an i7-920xm in my laptop so it's normal for it to clock at 2.45GHz even with a load on more than two cores. You'd have to close everything but whatever you're using to stress the CPU to get close to the max theoretical frequency your CPU can achieve. By the way, a 920xm should technically clock at 3.2GHz on full 1 core load, highest i've achieved was a little above 3.0 (without changing the TDP/TDC values -> which you can't do, but if i don't mention it someone will come along and tell me to) and the only program running was throttlestop.
