Hello,
During extensive research to find out the problems and fixtures for my laptop, I got a look of Chasity's Drivers,Software and BIOS link. While I was downloading them I was thinking to myself that what about the official release of them found in the AsusROG website.
One difference that I found is that Chasity's BIOS included in that thread and the BIOS that I have downloaded from the AsusROG website did not have the same Hash and MD5 value.Thinking of broken download I downloaded 5 times and also told my friend to do it to check the Hash and MD5 of both ones. But the same results came and the Hash and MD5 never was same, although each and every time I have downloaded from AsusROG website the Hash and MD5 was same.
Can any one explain this?
Wish Chasity has her eyes rolling in this thread!!!

Im sure she* will see this eventually
Are you speaking of Chastity's linked 213 bios? As compared to ASUS's 213 bios? Or are you speaking of the vBios? Sorry just want to make sure you havent confused the two, and you are talking about the latest versions of each, instead of say the 211 bios or stock vBios.
And afaik, Chastity keeps everything up-to-date, I would assume most people on this site, me included, have just downloaded w/e was necessary at the time, from her. I know I flashed my bios to 213 using her link and havent had any problems. I also used her modded vBios (after slight further modification)
Perhaps you accidentally clicked on one of the other G73 models? -
It was the BIOS,and not the vBIOS.
The BIOS revision is 213 as mentioned in the Asus ROG website.
And as you can see I am a complete newbie,so please help me out.
BTW did you flash your one using WinFlash or EZ-Flash?
***Link to the downloaded BIOS (Version 213) : http://rog.asus.com/Product.aspx?PId=32#product_tab*** -
They might be updating something on the server side (asus), this happens periodically afaik and can mess with the downloads on/from that site.
While I honestly dont know why your getting different values, I would just go ahead and flash using the 213 link on the Drivers/Applications page from Chastity OR if you can wait, untill Chastity sees this, because as she is a moderator over at the ROG site, she could check this better then anyone here.
Sorry my usefulness here is rather limited :/ but imho you could flash using chastitys 213 with no problems, if thats all you want the end result to be (updating your bios)
EDIT: Dont know if it will make any difference, but try this one
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us -
If ez-flash recognizes the new bios and doesn't make you force the flash, I'm sure you'll be fine.
-
I checked the 2 213 links, and both match the hashes. I removed the link for 211 in case it was causing the mixup.
EDIT: I checked the package from asus.com's support page, and it has a different filename than my package does, since I got mine from the German Asus server. (they removed a . ) and thus would have a different hash. The hash for this one is :
MD5 Checksum: 1485372080B94BF5F737C5ADE01BDFB4
SHA-1 Checksum: 20B304BEE4793AFC4D6DF9E96F1D6B02C34E9F85 -
Thank you Chasity for sorting it out!
-
Hi I am totally new to flashing bios and what not. I was wondering if the Bios 213 is the official release of the GSOD crashes when you update ATI driver from the stock ASUS one. I have been playing games that works with Bios 209 and stock so far and want to try other game that requires new ATI drivers but I am afraid of bricking my machine. Thanks for any help.
-
You need to update the MOTHERBOARD BIOS to 213 and the VIDEO BIOS to 012.020.000.032.038352 (two separate and distinct updates) two two two too to two
-
@Aragon21, for updating BIOS & VBIOS you can check the signature of Chastity and then download and use the BIOS & VBIOS from there by checking the HASH and MD5 values and then flash using it!!!
-
So the video Bios is still not officially supported? I don't see it on their support page at all. The reason I am asking is because if they don't support the video Bios and I brick my laptop somehow will they still fix it (still in the 1 year warranty period)?
-
If that happens just contact me and I'll make sure you get a valid RMA if they give you grief. Honestly you should have no issues unless the card is locked. If so, then I'll give you the unlock code.
-
I have flashed my one sccessfully using Chastitys bios and I am also using the drivers of AMD Catalyst 11.4 Beta from her signature, but it seems that I can't enable the Overclocking tab in Catalyst, well it seems to be all greyd out!!!
Help me!!! -
Hit the Lock icon to unlock it
-
Thank you again Chastity!!!
-
Hi,
So I have decided to try and flash it myself but I am still a bit confused about the flashing. So I check my ASUS Laptop and it say I have Bios 2.09, I notice the latest is 2.13 and there was a 2.11. So I have to flash to 2.11 first, then to 2.13? I remember reading somewhere that the vBios was for 2.11 Bios or are they unrelated? -
you can go straight to 213
-
-
For awhile they were being shipped with the beta vBIOS just before the current one, so I'm glad they updated their procedure
-
They actually did a halfway decent job of repasting as well. after 5 mins of furmark, I get 85/90/87.5 which is not bad for a stock paste job.
-
Wow! I guess i'm in the right place!! Hello everyone, my name is NuNE (noon)! I just got my ROG yesterday from Tiger Direct. I love this laptop. The only game i've played thuis far was MW1 because games like Roft and Crimecraft were taking a while to get patched up in all. ANyway, upon getting everything set just right, i noticed this Asus live update utility which wants me to update my Bios and a few other things like my Synaptics touchpad, which i have disabled so i can used my Razer Naga. Unfortunately, i'm not good with Bios updates. In fact, the only reason i AM here is because of my last Bios experience.
I used to have a Acer 8930g-6247 model. It was 3 yrs old and i never EVER updated a bios based on reading reviews of notebooks and bios issues researched. At any rate, my pc was falling apart and i ended up using the manufacturers bios update and PDF instructions and somehow, it PHYSICALLY dmged mypc. The CMOS battery port connector became dislodged from my old Acers' motherboard, and wouldnt boot, just a black screen with everything on but no REAL signs of life ya'kno? this was on 10/5/2011 when this happened, so i dont need to tell you guys that that experience has scarred me for life. I had used WinFlash because that is the only method the manufacturer had recommended. I was told NOT, by Bios Agent Plus site, NOT to use any other methods other than what your manufacturer recommmends. My Acer is Gone and now im blessed to have an even MORE POWERFUL rig MADE for Gamers, By GAMERS!!
Idkk if i have the power to update the Bios, I dont think i can, no matter what. My Rig is only warrantied for 90-days through Asus. I bought it refurbished. Yes, im only @ day 1 lol. But is there anything you guys could recommend to get my laptop in tip top shape other than the bios that wont be like playing "Russian Roullette" with my 1 day old laptop? i played COD:MW1 and it tore that game up and spit it out at 70+ fps!!! And that was while Rift, Crimecraft and SC2 were installing at the same time.
Im finally able to taste the gaming life like i've always wanted to and be a part of such an awesome community such as this. Knowledgeable members who genuinely want to help others, not for what comes in return, just one Rog members' respect for another. I'm currently at work atm and my G73 is at home. When i get home ill post my BIOS version and my video card info and see what you guys think. -
I was the same as you with the BIOS situation I had a Acer 6920G and never flashed before but it is very straight forward.
Post up your information when you get home and someone can advise you what you need to update. The latest BIOS is 213 and Vbios is V.93 but you need to post your Vbios Version which will be stated on GPU-z. -
Updating the BIOS cannot physically damage a PC. The CMOS battery port could not become dislodged from a software flash. Updating a BIOS DOES carry with it a certain level of risk (you don't want to shut off power to the PC while it's updating), but if you have a charged battery and are plugged in to AC power, winflash is very easy and foolproof.
Quite honestly, the first thing I did when I got my laptop was update to the latest BIOS and vBIOS versions because if something was to go wrong, I'd prefer it to happen right away where I could return/replace the system should I have any issue (not that I expected any).
Now that my system is updated and I've gone through the process, I would have absolutely no concern with flashing the BIOS again if there was an updated version released. I highly doubt we'll see another BIOS update for the G73JH though because the current BIOS has no issues that I've run across. The newest BIOS however addresses a number of issues that the G73JH had at release (keyboard lag and a few other things).
As I said, I'd do all the updates right away while your system is still in the warranty period so that you have the confidence of knowing there's no additional updating you'll ever need from a BIOS/vBIOS perspective.
The main risk with a BIOS flash is to not let it finish and have it brick the laptop because it didn't completely rewrite the BIOS chip. If you let it run and don't touch the laptop while it's going through the process, I'd consider it a very unlikely scenario that anything goes wrong.
Also, I forgot to mention that I have the identical laptop to you (G73JH BST7 model) and I can say that we have an amazing piece of hardware. It takes a little work to get it running perfectly (I always do complete disk wipes and fresh windows installs on all my systems), but once you have everything up to date and running properly, I can't think of another laptop that really competes at the price point. The Alienware high-end or dual GPU configurations are really the only systems I might "prefer" to my G73, but they are obviously much more expensive. I love the look and cooling solution on this laptop. -
yes i agree madnj. Very nice laptop. Yes, i think it was just coincidental with the cmos plug-in connected coming off the motherboard, its just the timing couldnt of been more ironic given the time it occurred ( i have the worst of luck). Dallers, when i get home i will post my specs. And Madnj is right, if i update it all would be said and done, but im just really nervous about it. Atleast Asus has an actual Live Update utility that appears to handle what it needs to with the BIOS and the updates and all. God im just so nervous, even though i shouldnt be. About how long did it take to update the BIOS for you madnj? once i post my specs, which should be the same as Madnj's, tell me what you guys think should come next. i Want this laptop to last. I got a great deal for the price. Typically, a BIOS update shouldnt be more than 5 minutes right? And everyone is like "OH, you should never flash the BIOS within Windows" ..."Oh, why did you use Winflash?!?" and i'm just following directions is all, but maybe it was meant to happen so i could get a gaming machine such as this. Im much happier with this. I did not that my internet takes a while to pull up pages on the web using ANY browser, and my patcher for Rift and Crimecraft say they're going to take 10's of hours to get through. I already allowed the exe for the patcher and the client through the firewall. Could it possibly be something needs to be updated? im using the wifi, not the wimax feat. for the internet. When i checked the properties of the connection, it said 74.6 mbps, when i know it should be running 100 mbps minimum. But its like, i dont want to break anything (never used to be this way until the whole acer thing). Its like i have a new motto..." If it isnt broke, dont FIX it". It aint broke, but it aint right either LoL.
-
Also, who is Chastity? does she work for Asus or represent them in any way? You guys know alot more about gaming pc's then me, so im open for suggestions.
-
Chastity be me.
I am with Asus Customer Care in Fremont, CA office.
And a BIOS flash takes about 30 seconds. You can use WinFlash 2.31.1 to update your BIOS from Windows.
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/WinFlash/WinFlash_Win7_32_Z2311.zip -
Well nice to meet you Chastity!!! it truly is a pleasure. For you to take time out of your life for me as well os everyone else thats posting baout my concern is gr8ly appreciated :
. So everyone is saying there shouldnt be any problems from the sounds of it.
-
If it fails, which GOD only knows would happen to someone like me, could i send it back to Asus for repair under warranty?
-
then I downloaded the Vbios pack from here G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update
I uploaded that to virus total, scary. Win32.Banker The win32.banker is because of the windows 98 bootdisc that is zipped up in that package, notsure if thats a false positive.
I also found open candy on DriverSweeper_3.2.0.exe That is not a false positive because they even talk about at the forums at d evelopers website. -
Sry everyone for the holdup on my Dxdiag and additional specs. I have bowling and martial arts on Tuesdays
. ABout my drivers, should i be using the asus live update utility thing to update my drivers. there is all this hoo-haa about being careful about drivers, so i havnt updated a Darn thing yet. WHERE exactly should I download drivers? the LAST thing i want is to download the wrong driver and have crazy issues like what im reading on the web.
-
Download all your drivers from Chastity's driver reference page. I don't even bother installing the ASUS update utility anymore because the latest versions of everything is all listed on that page.
-
ah ok cool. But yeah, all my specs should be stock. But to be certain, i PROMISE that when i get home tonight around 7 est, ill post my info to assure u guys im not trying to waste anyone's time. I really do appreciate all the help and info. And am glad to be a ROG member
-
Ok. So here are my specs and additional info...

OK. Does it come with a PDF step-by-step guide i might be able to use to get the bios updated properly?
-Thanks Alot Chastity! -
It's a Windows GUI and just follow the prompts. It's super easy.
http://support.asus.com/Search/KDetail.aspx?SLanguage=en&no=1802&t=0 -
ok Sweet! sounds easy enough. Is a gui a Guided User Interface?
-
Can someone tell me what was fixed coming from my Bios to v213? what issues were resolved that maybe i havn't noticed yet...
-
GUI= Graphical User Interface (IE fancy windows program that takes you through the process).
You don't need any technical expertise to go through the process. -
Ok. another question for the pros
. I know i need to update my vid card drivers. Where exactly do i need to go to get them? i heard rumors about to not go to ATI or something because it will crash the system, but is it ok to get them from Asus website? they're diff right? God!! im such a newb!
-
If you haven't done so, you'll need to update your vbios. Here's a thread on how to do it: G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update can either use the newer asus vbios or chastity's od2.
Once that is up to date, you can grab the drivers directly from ATI. uh! it's AMD now.
-
chastity has advised me on the driver updates TIJO, but im still nervous about it. im going to have my cousin update my drivers by doing the whole Bootable device and flashing in Dos or something like that. He says to NEVER trust a flash within Windows, but chastity works for asus and sounds pretty darn knowledgeable, and i want to just get it over with. I see how easy it is to flash the BioS, but yeah, still really nervous, but its DEF going to be done before my warranty is up, probably within the next 2-3 weeks. So i guess i need to update the bios first, THEN update any other drivers. I mean the bios apparently only takes a few minutes IF THAT! But even if it is under warranty and i can send it back and get it fixed for dree, i just dont want to part with the laptop for ANY length of time for something can be avoided by doing a flash In a way that safely guarantees a safe flash. But, is there even a way to flash it using DoS?
-
One thing i dont understand is, Are you saying I must update BioS before i upgrade my driver for my vcard?
-
In order of update:
Update the motherboard bios to 211 or 213 if you haven't done so already (check the asus bios update guide here at NBR, use the easy flash method)
Update the vbios (video card bios to v93 or od2, od2 preferred)
Update the drivers
A change in vbios can result in windows detecting your adapter as new hardware so you will most likely need to re-install your drivers anyways. Keep your current drivers, if they are up to date and everything is stable, don't reinstall. If they aren't up to date or windows nags you about new hardware, install the latest. You'll need to update to 11.10 next week anyways if you want the latest drivers. -
Hi i posted on another thread on this forum about not being able to play battlefield 3. I havent updated the bios or the gpu drivers since i bought the g73jh over a year ago... i think they are factory defaults. I followed the step by step guide on this forum (through easyflash) when i hit enter on the bios file i get the message "read file failly"
What can I do because I have not been able to update my graphics drivers and i am pretty sure that is what is stopping me from playing.
Any help would be appreciated (plain language as much as possible please) -
Ironic. im posting about the same thing. i justbought battlefield 3 too and i cant play the game. apparently 100's of thousands of players are having issues with the game not launching multiplayer, or the game itself at all. so are saying it may be an amd issue. but i am not sure either.

Mine just says " Joining Server..." but nothing happens...it just hangs like that. ive uninstalled and re-installed 4 times and updated punkbuster and the game just as many times.
Last night, i got one that said " AppCRASH" with some number , like 99e3315 or something like tha. ive tried to recreate the error code after my 4th install but instead i get the hanging "Joining Server..." -
Ok. luckily i saved the error message. BF3 or rather, EA's tech support SUCKS! they dont know jack! hunted around and still no solid explanation for the message when trying to launch a multiplayer match...

I tried to update my graphics drivers and have been having zero success.
Updated the BIOS, followed the instructions to remove drivers and whatnot but everytime it fails to install the CCC because of the microsoft redistributable

would love someone to walk through a solution for me... -
I hear ya graavy. Its not just us 2, but thousands with similiar if not identical issues. its not even about the latest catalyst drivers, bios, or anything like that. It is on EA i think and origin. That fault module seems to be a dynamic link library file that is NOT in our graphics drivers..because we have a 64bit! that locale ID1033 is all over the place. EA is aware of this Battlefield 3 has stopped working, i mean its everywhere. i can only be patient. people are doing some pretty crazy things to get it working, like reformatting and other extremes. A 60 game is not worth my Asus i love so much. And they're doing these things with NO success. All because of Origin and EA didnt want to admit it is an issue on there end. so ive tried EVERYTHING over the weekend to fix it, without reformatting or anything that may endanger my laptop gravy. Nothing. SO i bought BF2 to play temporarily From gamestop online and its finished updating just now, but im at work so cant play it yet. im gonna just wait.
There have been a few fixes ive seen so far while im researching the issue in the office. Im goin to try a few more, if they dont work, ill let you know. But if they do, ill def be posting here after the game runs clean. THats a promise. Bcuz if youre as frustrated as me, i know you'll be happy to hear something that may work
