There is nothing wrong with the 5870M its a fantastic card there ''where'' problems with the Asus card in the G73JH but no more since a Vbios update .93 became available and in the worse case scenario better thermal compound application fixed all of the issues.

It still performs better than the latest 460/560M from Nvidia in many cases so that fact its a 2 year old card still meeting the best of its ability it really is a bargain.

If you want a laptop which is in perfect working order and will not have one issue the JH is not for you, but for those of us that took the risk for a stupid amount of money cheaper and spent an hour when first getting it to fix the issues and are now left with something more powerful than laptops $1k more well that says it all :)

I have this same version but mines was new when i first bought it so i can only give you my experience from there. This laptop will probably be the best investment you'll ever make from day 1 of my purchase i havent had a single problem with this laptop (overheating, gsod, reboots, etc) of course with new hardware releases always comes new updates which need to be applied in order to make this laptop a perfect running laptop. But other then that gaming wise this laptop can play it all from bf3 to crysis 2 and it runs amazing! Some people complain and say they cant run certain games in high or ultra settings but for me i can run if not all close to all games on high-ultra settings with no lag whatsoever! So in mu honest opinion you should get the laptop its the only laptop id recommend that give you more bang for your buck!

List of Recommended Upgrades ive done to my system(prioritized in order you should upgrade):
1.SSD (WILL IMPROVE YOUR SYSTEM MORE THEN YOU THINK)
2.1080p screen(not really a performance gainer or anything this is more of an optional thing but it does make the image look a lot better)
    3. i7 920/940 xm processor
    4. RAM ( I know it comes with 6gb and thats more then enough but 8gb is a comfort level of mines when it comes to ram)
    5. and lastly its currently in the making but they might get a 6990 to work on this laptop very soon im sitting back and waiting for the outcome of this but this is an upgrade i would look into if you have the $$$

If you need any other advice on the system and so forth let me know i can help you to the best of my knowledge :)

I do have the same laptop and refurb one also
I truely satisfied from what i got for what i paid the performance is just awesome and i am outperforming most of my friends Rog laptops even with higher spec.
you should be fine but you will have to spend few hours to fix all the issues you have on that laptop starting with bios, Vbios upgrade and ending with fresh windows install + updated drivers and windows tweaks for more performance.
