Hey guys, was looking for some help on upgrading my gaming laptop, Asus G73JH-BST7.
    The current spec are

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz
    6GB RAM
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
Total size of hard disk(s) 281 GB
Disk partition ( C 9 GB Free (75 GB Total)
Disk partition ( D 206 GB Free (207 GB Total)
    Media drive (E CD/DVD

I want to upgrade the RAM to the most I possible can, I know one of the RAM slots is on the other side of the mobo then the 3 open slots,so im looking to upgrade them all if possible,if not the open 3.
Next i want to upgrade the original(horribly slow) HDD to a faster one, probably 500gb would be fine but def 7200rpm and also add an SSD, in which case i found one option,

    Amazon.com: Crucial M500 120GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT120M500SSD1: Computers & Accessories

Would just like to hear some ideas or feedback on what you think I should do upgrading wise. Thanks

From What I have read 4x4 RAM 1333MZ ram is the max with win 7 home OS. AFA SSD's it seems the longer you can wait the better deal you may get. There are many threads here about SSD's SSD Forum I would invest in the largest you can afford for reasons explained in some of the threads.

Confirmed what JOSEA mentioned, 16GB is the most Windows 7 Home will support.

What size is your HDD supposed to be? 281GB seems pretty small. Is there an unallocated partition maybe? You can check in disk management to see if so and if there is then assign it a letter/patch, or get into the device manager, find the model of the hard drive and google it to see what its capacity is.

It's a formatted 320GB drive with a hidden partition most likely.

320GB is seen as 298GB in the OS, and 10GB is usually taken away to be used as recovery partition.
If you go to disk management then you can see the partitions on the hard drive.

Agreed with you guys about the Decimal to Binary conversion (320GB ~ 298GB when converted), but this model originally came with a 640GB HDD as stock and seeing it was a best buy model they probably didnt alter it. I would check disc management to see if there is a partition that isn't being used properly.

To do so right click computer > manage > disc management. Check the disc listed in the middle pane of the window that pops up.

Yes and it should be a single drive too and not dual 320gb either. I would check into that as hutsady says.

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to answer his questions.

You can upgrade the RAM to 16GB 1333MHz. You can also upgrade the CPU to a i7 920xm or a 940xm. And upgrade the GPU to a 2GB Radeon HD 6970M.
