Hey guys,
Bought an Asus G73 about a month ago, it plays well in games any everything, as soon as i got it i reformated and put Windows 7 Enterprise on it. I have installed all the drivers any everything from Asus website and recently updated to bios version 209. When i press Fn + Esc it doesn't freeze after updating to 209.
But when i ran the 3D Mark 06 just now, it seems that the cpu score is severly getting smashed, the frames are like 0.5 per second. Also, when i first got the laptop, in the windows system scores, my processor was at 7.1, it has not dropped down to 6.6 and i did not put any different drivers in.
I added a link to both the results of the benchmark aswell as what is being displayed in the HWiNFO32 program.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you running on A/C or battery? There has been a CPU throttle issue after running off the battery. There have been reports that BIOS 209 has fixed this issue, and I see you've updated to 209, but might as well eliminate the obvious first
-
In the Win7 Power settings, do you have the setting set to "High Performance"?
-
I'm running on AC and i had it set to Power4Gear High performance, i just switched over to High Performance.
-
Any help guys, is this a hardware issue - is my cpu perhaps faulty?
Thanks,
RJ -
Did you have problems after the bios update or after installing Win7 Enterprise?
-
I havn't really had any problems, except the low score.
BUT, something just happened. I got a blue screen of death, so restarted, once i restarted my computer loggen in but was frozen, couldnt do anything. So i restarted again, now just before windows splash screen in boot up, at the top of my screen, first i get some coloured dots/objects on the top right half of my screen (about 8mm deep) then the whole top of the screen gets the dots/little ojbects, i cant do anything, just black.
I can log in via safe mode, i restored my comp to an earlier time but it doesnt fix it. Please don't tell me my comp is screwed
Thanks,
RJ -
Wait!,
I left it for around 5 minutes, and it booted up again... Whats going on!

A quick look at your INfo.jpg image shows you only have two active cores instead of the normal four cores. I don't know if core parking shows up that way in HWiNFO32.
-
Parked cores are at virtual core level...HWiNFO32 shows physical cores and always shows all four regardless of how many virtual cores are parked. -
Hey Guys,
So what does this mean? Should i try and uninstall the drivers then reinstall or something?
Thanks, -
So guys i have added another image with a little more info from the program. It say the cpu has 4 cores, just appears they aren't operating?
Thanks in advance,
RJ

PUt the system back to its original state. See if blue screens appear again and check your scores. You might have to send it back because you may have a poorly binned CPU(1 or more cores)
-
The blue screen only happened once. If i put it back to its original state, i presume that i will lose all my stuff (so i should backup).
If it helps, when i first got the laptop (about a month ago) the windows score for the processor was 7.1 (which seems what everyone else is getting) i am now getting 6.6 and i think it even went as low and 6.1 a while ago.
So if it was working, does that mean it's not a hardware issue or has something blown?
Thanks. -
Dont Worry Guys!,
I found what happened, i had read a tutorial on making the boot up and quicker and in that tutorial it said to go into msconfig and change boot advanced cpu number, i put it back to default and now it's showing 4 cores!!!!
In a couple of hours ill post my 3D Mark 06 score for everyone!!
Thanks for everything,
RJ -
Here is my score now:

Any good for the G73? -
-
In msconfig, in boot, then advanced, i set the number of processors to 4. I read it somewhere it helps the boot up time, but looks like it throttled them... Go figure.
Also, how do i know if i have the 1066 or 1333 ram? I have the BB G73 and i have heard that it's shipped sometimes with the 1333 ram and i think that would be abonus to have!
Thanks again guys,

CPU-Z Link
* A side note.
If you have the Asus turbo boost activated in the bios, the memory speed will actually be higher since the Multiplier is based on the FSB speed.
Stock 133*5 = 665Mhz or 1333Ghz
Turbo 142*5 = 710Mhz or 1420Ghz
The number will be between 665-667Mhz. (Double Rate 1333) -
Thanks shoe3k,
I did that and my DRAM frequency varies around the 707 MHZ range. It varies from around 706 to 709.
What's that mean?
Thanks,
RJ -
Yeah without turbo boost, its around 660 or 665, does that mean i have the better 1333 ram?
Also, does that mean turbo boost makes the ram faster? If not/ If so, what does turbo boost do and is it worth leaving it on?
Thanks again,
RJ -
. Don't forget to Rep me
The turbo boost tries to do a small overclock by ramping up the FSB which is the multiplier for memory, cpu, etc. Just leave it on and let it do its thing. -
I did indeed rep you, thanks ... Wow cool thing i have the better memory.. Is the 1333 a little better then the 1066?? Also, is there a way that maybe i have the 1066 and just think i have the 1333 or is it concrete that i have the 1333?
Thanks!!!! Rep GIVEN!! -

You don't always want the Turbo on, because in most cases it slows your computer down.
Since you have CPU-z, to check which type of memory you have go to the SPD tab and look at the "Max Bandwidth" field. Whatever it says there in MHz, multiply it by two. So if for example you see:
PC3-10700 (667MHz)
Then 667x2=1334 or 1333 RAM. You can also look at the manufacture's "Part Number" in the same tab. So, if for example you see:
ASU1333D3S9DR8/2G
Then you have 1333 memory. -
I told him how to find out how to find his memory speed on page 2
