I am wondering and wondering what the difference the intel 1000 wireless card is to the old atheros, I was planning on upgrading the the intel 6200, but is it worth it now?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Not sure I understand what you are asking. That is, what do you have now, and what are you considering upgrading to?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
IMO the minimal upgrade price is worth it. If you would like a Dual Band card (increased speed) and the MyWifi (PAN and Wifi hotspot). -
Is there a reason that the intel 6300 is not available as an upgrade? Sorry if it is a dumb question, I'm still learning.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No worries, it is not a dumb question
The Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 requires three antennas and the ASUS G73JW-A1 has only two, so it will only support the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 card -
Im torn on whether to get the g73jh or the jw..
I've been reading about all the problems with the jh but that the ati 5870 gpu is way better then the nvidia 460 in this model..
Im a gamer so I want the most power.. Its cool that you can transfer hd-signal wireless with the jw but thats just a small extra for me..
Any recommendations on what to do? -
Almost every G73JH issue has been fixed, including the VGA issue. Check out the ASUS Gaming section.
-
so if u had to choose all over again: would u wait for the jw or go for the jh?
-
Since I don't have 3D TV and I don't need that 1 USB 3.0 port yet, I would even wait that 2 months at XoticPC for the JH again.
-
There are quite a few advantages of the JW over the JH as listed above. It also has ram upgradeable to 16GB and split trackpad buttons vs. a single button. I highly doubt that there are going to be issues with the GPU but that's just my hunch. I pre-ordered mine today.
-
I'd choose the JW only because some of the applications that I use are optimized for the nvidia CUDA cores over the Stream processors from ATI. I do have an M6400 for doing large crunching with GPU power though since it has the professional Quadro graphics card.
-
What do you mean: wait 2 months for the JH again?
-
I assume he's talking about a refreshed model or the 3-D ready model (in November).
-
He probably meant he waited 2 months originally for his G73JH and he would do it all over again if he had to ...
As far as i know the ATI model is gone for good after the remaining stock of A1s A2s B1s are gone, so for people wanting the 5870 might want to grab one sooner rather then later..
Personally im more interested in the Nvidia model myself
...
-
You are correct sir
-
lol the JH could do 16GB RAM too... anyways , i doubt single button is that bad... I've waited 8 months for buying a JH and seriously wouldn't mind waiting more
-
where are those stupid benchmarks from reviewers already? there is only notebookcheck(says about +2% or -2% performance difference both ways) and gamestar.de(i dont trust it) (which says 460m is atleast 10 fps slower in almost every game)
I want more detailed and a trustworthy reviewer!
I want something more detailed and from another reliable source to confirm those benchmarks! -
G73JW is arriving next week in Hungary, maybe I can get some benchmarks
-
The one benefit of the 460M would be the Cuda/Physx ability. Having 3D would be nice, but the performance hit would probably kill that GPU to do much 3D gaming with it. I already have a PS3 for 3D BluRay when the time comes to get a TV and such to support that. The only other thing about that laptop that is tempting is the USB3.0 which would be awesome, but again not extremely necessary. I think I should stay happy with my JH-A1 for a good while.. (I hope.. Coming tomorrow if all goes well)
-
PhysX? With set to High PhysX, Mafia 2 would chew and spit out the 460M
-
It's pretty obvious that the G73JW will not do 3D at 1080p. The G53's 3D panel is 1366x768. Other than probable screen problems, I don't think there's any mobile GPU that can handle full 3D HD yet...
-
Really? All the specs that I've seen said that the JH can't have more than 8GB. People have complained about the single button, its even listed as one of the selling points on XoticPC or GentechPC.
Here are the specs from ASUS website: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=8je5Ot4HBnKOdT81
Main Memory DDR3 1066/1333 MHz up to 8GB (Intel® i7-720QM / i7-820QM platform) -
its written like that but it takes 16GB.. these are intel specs which asus copies but i7 processors take 16GB and even 32GB like in Dell precision M6500... if u don't know anything , don't act smart.. do your research before you start arguing..
-
I believe sean473 is right, all models support 16GB from what i know.
-
Actaully they can take 32Gb like all i7 notebooks with 4 slots but its just absurd.. it would cost more than the notebook.
-
Can you say "Ram Drive"
-
If several different spec sources list the max at 8GB am I supposed to think otherwise? Do you have small peeny syndrome?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Specs mean the max memory you can configure and order a system from Asus, if you upgrade yourself it will support 16gb just fine.
Look at Gentechs product page, they offer 16GB upgrade as an option. - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=G73JH-A2&Category_Code=
All you need to do is look at the chipset whitepapers from intel, not product specs.
I hope you feel the shame you should for insulting people when you were wrong all along. -
LOL. I'll admit that I was wrong but I wasn't arguing with anyone I was just reporting what I read and provided the source so that someone could set me straight. The comment Sean made was a little over the top.
-
will the JW come with the same hdd caddy as the JH? 'cause i dont see it on the estore anymore and maybe the JW would somehow have the same and i could order that
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I dont see any reason why the Hard Drive Caddy would have changed from the JH to the JW. We will know for sure once the JW's arrive.
-
When would that be
like in a month or 2 or more time than that
Also if we have one from bestbuy
Will any company update dual hard drive
better resolution screen, update Cpu, etc
Thanks. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They are in...we will begin shipping this Friday.
-
If only we could say the same thing about the G53, I would jump out of my seat and scream like a little school girl in hysteria. Three more weeks /wrists lol
-
The spec on your site say
Weight: 8.8 lbs (with 8 cell battery & two hard drives)
does that include the adapter ?
or how much weight would that be
also when we chose 2 hard drives
it does not have option for Raid 0
will we have call & tell you guys ?
Please -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
8.8 pounds does not include the AC Adapter, which weighs 1.8 pounds.
None of the ASUS models support RAID. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I doubt anyone will update the screen for you from a lower specd Best Buy Version. (You would have to do it yourself or maybe pay a local PC Shop to do it for you) Our first G73JW is arriving tomorrow AM!
-
Thanks guys
am looking forward to a review
-
I have a G73JW-b1 Ihope the mousepad button loosens up two buttons are a lot better. I dropped in ssd from the old laptop and works ok just adding some drivers so all my stuff is the same. One problem is sites like this page. Why when I use the scroll on the side of the touch pad does it jitter and go so slow down the page? Any way to fix this problem?
-
The 6300N works in the G73 but w/o the 3rd antenna does not achieve the advertised 450m speeds. You just connect the two antennas if you don't wish to run the 3rd one. I get between 270 and 300 on my 6300N
Cheers, -
Wonder how much lower this would be comparing it to Clevo x7200 ?
Need for Gaming
Thanks -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Right, it only supports Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 speed, so no point in installing the more expensive Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300. -

We opened our first G73JW arrived but there appears to be a driver issue. Although it says it is displaying and FHD 1080P it does not look like it on the screen. Unfortunately nVIDIA does not list the GPU on their website for the 460M. When sitting it next to a G73JH at FHD the icons are noticeably larger. It came with 259.12 Driver from nVIDIA. We will try another driver and post some benchmarks shortly.
EDIT: Disregard the statement as by default out of the box the "Screen Magnification" was set to Medium 125% rather then 100%.
-
I had to facepalm just a little bit, oh asus
try the 259.47 pack http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-v259-47-whql-drivers-released-ms-update.html -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
That is what we thought!
That's the one we are trying..... Doing a stock vantage run first and then going to try updating to the 259.47 Driver.
With the stock 259.12 idling at 41c
-
Thanks for the info, keep it coming!
I just found out from Ken that Gentech PC just shipped my laptop out. I can help troubleshoot some of these things once it arrives! -
