Ok guys im sure it has all been listed before and i did search..but didnt find much on what i wanted to know.
1.max cpu that can be used in this lappy. Ive heard the i7-940XM will work..
so if thats true what kind of performance gains would i see from going from the stock i7-740QM to the 940xm?
2.memory. I understand 16 gigs would be a bit of overkill lol..but i was wondering whats the best and fastest responding memory to use in this note book? current 8 gigs is ddr3 1333 by some company that asus uses and it doesnt score very high in the windows index or bench programs for that matter..
3.bluray drive.. wich one would work on this lappy..could i just buy one off of ebay? with regular form factor advitised for asus? panasonic seems to be the one for sell there.
5. Ive seen some newer screens that are the same screen size led but there 120 hrtz.. is it possible to swap to one of these screens and have it function properly? theory would be even if you did not have 3D hardware installed that the onscreen moving picture would look better do to the higher refresh rate.
6.3D hardware.. is it possible to snag this off another G73 serries and install in my lappy..( I know where a broken laptop is for semi cheap that has it and its a g73 Serries)
7.ive found online a higher resolution web cam online that in theory would fit in the current camera location.. would it function properly? if it was say HD camera? 10-14.1 mega pixels?
8.I see that they advertise my laptop as have the wireless display technology installed but i have no idea howto tell if i do..
im asking because i dont want to upgrade to another laptop as i like this one! and most parts im referring to besides memory and cpu can be had really cheap.

The only update you should do is getting an SSD.
-
would you care explaining why? and why not upgrade the cpu or any thing else?
-
I believe his question is: What are you going to do with your lappy that you need a CPU upgrade?
-
Gaming..improved gaming..lol Autocad..video editing.. Gaming..
lol so theres my answer but i do not understand why people think that some one shouldn't do some thing? im just looking for the answers..to the questions i posed. -
Here is the problem I see.
You want to spent more money on upgrades that the laptop is worth.
So most people find this folish.
If you took the money from the sales of the laptop as it, and took the money you want in upgrades and add it togother, you can buy a better laptop and still have a warranty and support.
The chip you want sell for $1100 to $1800.
The 3D requires the Nvidia GPU , you have that, so I am not sure if it the screen that you need now, or the glasses...
For the Memory, I think you are limited to only 1333. my score is 7.2 what is yours? I am pretty sure we are limted as laptops here.
The web cam?? link what you found..
Wireless displays requires the both units that have this. So look for Intel Inside product like TV or Monitors. This is very new stuff and I have not see it outside of Trade shows yet. but i am sure some HIGH end store sells it.
Just take your Laptop with you to test it..
THis is my list of answer, some are helpful and other are not.. -
I would like a better cpu as well eventually. And these can be found on ebay for less than $1100. Maybe about $800 and hopefully cheaper soon.
The problem is whether or not the bios will recognize it.
Any Sony optaric slim drive will fit in the g73sw.There are some videos on youtube about how to swap the bezel. -
Im wanting to upgrade because I had a Alienware M17 the older one with the extreme core 2 duo and well it scored better in windows and seemed to function better. The up grade to an extreme i7940xm would hopefully have the same results.
The camera Id be putting in..is made by a company a friend of mine works for that builds under water rovers, essentially id Solder it in but after looking at a broken G73JW there about the same size..maybe 1mm difference if that, Ill try to get a picture of it from him.
so in a nut shell thats why i was asking about the cpu..and what is compatible. also the wireless N thats supposed to be in this laptop does not seem to pick up the 5ghz range. and speeds seem to be limited to 150mbps. is it possible to attain higher speeds with this laptop or even dual bond the wireless N..if so how?
-
Ok the Web cameria is not off the shelf... If it from a friend, Cool.. Nut show how it will interface, but if your friend can do it cool.. I am not that brave to do it...
for the CPU cost. I just used Google. So it might be at $800 and dropping.
For me that is to costly. I paided like $1200 for my laptop..
For slugish performance, did you get an SSD yet??
I undstand they help. Or even a Hybrid HS with SSD on board.
For wirless the spec say we are limited to the 2.4Gzh channel N wirless signal.
Yes you can buy a 6300 Intel Wirless card, but you need to buy a 3rd antena as well. but do you have a connetion to your network or internet that can pass over 150MB?
Most people do not. I am just saying... I would feel this is a good upgrade to make... -
no SSD as of yet. havent wanted to sacrafice space for speed. id do it if i could find a 1tb drive that would fit in the second bay lol..
