This is my first laptop after years of desktops.
Is refurbished and works great except for the card reader.
When I insert an 8GB SDHC card it shows the drive under computer. but when I try and open I get the error "Insert disk into SD/MMC" error
Things I have tried.
Renaming the drive to another letter.
Uninstalling the Alcor software.
it shows a removable drive but still gives the same error when I click on it.
I have reinstalled the Alcor software (a couple of different versions)
I formated the card.
I formated the card as ntfs and back to fat32 (neither worked on the laptop and the camera would only read fat32)
The card works fine in the camera and in another computer.
So I am out of ideas and the next option might be to purchase a card reader.
sorry if this was answered already I searched the forum with alcor but didnt find anything.

Does it work with other SD cards?
The G73Jh card reader does support SDHC. -
Thanks for letting me know that it doesnt support the SCHC. -

It does support SDHC. Unless there are different variants of the card reader in the G73Jh (I don't know for sure). I was asking to see if maybe you had a hardware problem with any other cards...

Checking today and it will read a 2g SD card that I have but not the 8gig SDHC -

Hmm... you could try an ubuntu livecd or liveusb to try it there, that would at least rule out a driver problem.
I used my G73Jh exclusively on linux and the sd card reader worked fine for me with all of my cards.
