    Hello,

I'm hoping some people can give me advice. I'd rather fix this problem myself, as it would be costly to have it repaired. As far as I know, my global warranty is over. I bought the laptop in the USA a little over a year ago, but I live in Korea.

So, I'm hoping for some solutions....

    THE PROBLEM...

My screen will suddenly become discolored. It's quite bad. The edges will turn green on my desktop. If I open up a browser window, that window will be pink.

I have attached pictures, but the discoloration is much brighter/obvious than the pictures portray.

    http://i43.tinypic.com/68h26e.jpg - Pink Pic #1

    The temporary solution....
When this first came up, I was surprised. I put the computer into sleep, that didn't help. I rebooted, that did nothing. Then, in my frustration, I decided to hit the computer.

I noticed that if I "slam" the laptop down on the table, it will fix itself for a while. The problem will randomly reoccur however.

I have no heating issues by the way.

    Additional details....
I have my TV hooked up via HDMI. I can duplicate the screen. The TV will display everything perfectly, while the laptop has a messed up display.

What is causing this? What is the permanent solution? What can I do?

Have you taken it appart ? or is the notebook a refurbished notebook?.

Had similar problem the first time i took the notebook apart. Turns out the cable from the screen got stuck under a screw mount of the vent cover behind the screen. Lucky for me it did not damage the cable so much but it did make the screen act all funny. Had the same pink screen on white color and white color on some other parts.

It also might be that the cable connector from the screen is not in place.

No, I have never taken it apart. Do you recommend that I disassemble it and check connections?

You dont have to take it all appart...just the back vent panel. Do get it open you need to turn the notebook off and remove the battery. Then you need to remove the two small screw under the battery and 2 screws from the right and left side. Then you can take the cover off and see if the cable(should be the thickest cable there) is ok.

You can then do a test. With the cover off but battery back and start it up as normal. When the screen goes funny again try to move the screens cable to see if it makes a differenc. If it does and no damage is on the cable then you will have to open the whole notebook up as the connector is under the front panel :(

You might want to check that the LVDS cable is properly attached on both ends. (That's the cable that connects the display to the motherboard) In some rare cases the adhesive is not properly placed and may result in the cable coming unseated.

It could also be a defective LVDS cable. They are incredibly easy to damage.

I have also seen this issue in failing LCD panels. If this is the issue and the unit is out of warranty, it's a very inexpensive and simple fix.

Please let us know your results :)

Last night I disassembled the laptop. I noticed no loose cables.

After I put the laptop back together, I noticed a further cause for the green screen.

If I push down on certain keys with a moderate amount of force, it will cause this error. However, that is not the only time it can occur. For example, I can be watching TV (not typing at all) and it may occur.

I'm trying to figure out how I can get it fixed. I bought the G73Jw A1 around Oct/Nov 2010 from Gentech PC, with a modification (new ethernet controller). I emailed Gentech asking about how I can get it repaired, because I live in Asia. I am still waiting on their response. I tried to call the local Asus number for my country, however I don't speak the language well enough to understand them.

So, in my case, I don't think I can fix it myself. I don't know what the problem is! Also, I realized that laptop disassembly is a pain! I feel more secure in my life, so I might transition into a desktop soon. But I don't want to blow my savings on a desktop PC, I was expecting this laptop to get me by for another year or two.

So if you type lightly there is not problem ?.....you might want to remove the keyboard and and to a test and press on the aluminum frame under the keyboard and try to pinpoint the location of the problem. if the problem is realy under the keyboard then it might be that the monitor cable (Should right above the F9 and F10 key) is damaged or was damaged when they took your notebook apart to modifie)

Did you look at the plug ? or just pressed it in ?

Should be an easy fix if one of the cable connector pins is bent.

Hope you resolve the problem :)

It occurs when I press in the region from the F10 key to the Delete/Insert key. Down to the J through Enter key. This entire square region. Again, it requires moderate/heavy force. I only noticed it when I was putting the computer back together because i was trying to pop a key back in place! But it replicates the exact same problem that I have.

However, I have to hold it down in order for this to occur. Once I stop pressing, it will go away. That said, the original problem is random and has been happening. It is tolerable now, but I suspect it could lead into something bigger.

On a different note, I have 3 keys that don't want to sit properly on the keyboard now (my fault for damaging them? Haha). I need to find a guide on how to properly put it back on!

If you lay your laptop on its side and open the back panel and then press on the heatsink over the GPU, does it do the same thing?

The GPU solder could be lifting
