REMOVE ANY BIOS PASSWORDS AND HDD PASSWORDS YOU HAVE TO PREVENT NOT BEING ABLE TO ENTER THEM AFTER A FLASH! - One occurrence of this happening, unsure of the exact settings. - Seems a CMOS battery pull got the keyboard working again. May be a one off, will update more with my own testing.

    ******WARNING******

This thread is dedicated to my BIOS Mod for the Asus G73JH based on BIOS 213 (latest from ASUS). I am expanding too...

The original mod was created for users that are affected by a bad thermal sensor on the main board causing the CPU to lock at 933mhz. Typically these users would run "ThrottleStop" to disable BD-PROCHOT and enabled full CPU speed.

Credit goes to Lannigan which found that the BIOS can be edited with some specific tools. Thanks.

I have taken this a step further and will be slowly adding features that are disabled/missing in the BIOS.

    Version 5 tested and working.

    Version 1: G73JhAS.213BDPH - REMOVED, USE VERSION 5.

    - Enabled the BD-PROCHOT setting within the BIOS to be Enabled/Disabled by the user.

    Version 2: G73JhAS.213.Moddedv2 - REMOVED, USE VERSION 5.

    - All features of version 1.
    - Added Fan Speed Temperature Control
    - Unlocked Other Menus for CPU configuration settings/power settings.

    Version 3: G73JhAS.213.Moddedv3 - REMOVED, USE VERSION 5.

    - All features of version 1 & 2.
    - Added more CPU configs & power settings.
    - Added USB Disable & Legacy Support[/I]

    Version 4: G73JhAS.213.Moddedv4 - REMOVED, USE VERSION 5.

    - All features of version 1 & 2 & 3.
    - Unlocked EVERYTHING in the BIOS. If you do not see the option, it does not exist (or you couldn't modify it anyways).

    Version 5: G73JhAS.213.Moddedv5 - https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bzj6JjnAJZjjTWJCZnRGZ3Vxdnc

    - All features of version 1 & 2 & 3 & 4.
    - Really this time I unlocked everything :p, added COM port settings and Network Stack. This ROM is now complete.

Above ROMs minus the G73JH will be updated in a day or two to add anything I missed. I will go through each one again with a fine toothed comb to see if anything is missing.

    Thanks :)

Youtube video preview (of old V3): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck5q4UvjQ5w

I'm tired as well and just got home from the night shift. Audio is probably bad due to fans running but I don't care.

To flash it you can use the Asus WinFlash utility. Just make sure you run WinFlash /nodate from cmd prompt or Start > Run...

    Hi, thanks for the bios!
Could you please add the SHA1 or MD5 sum of the bios to verify the correct download?
    Thanks :)

and dont forget to inform us what is tested , for how long , are there any problems etc

Version 4 is now up, everything unlocked. Have fun. My testing involves unlocking the feature and flashing the BIOS and making sure the comp boots with the default factory settings.

I cannot test every feature, however, i know that BD-PROCHOT disabled/enabled works 100% which was the main thing for me.

Let me know how the other features go. If they dont work, well we can put a list together and i can slowly remove the ones that dont work.

They either work or they dont, there is no "fixing" them. I just simply made 'em visible :).

Edit: I've personally never had a problem flashing via Windows, but I do agree it can be risky.

I can also unlock the G75 and some other models but I think i'm going to hold off at this point. I'm not sure about them 100% as some of the settings are blank and I'm not sure if I can set a name to the blank structure to allow it to be accessed within the BIOS.

I'll update when I can. Going to leave it for now. If anyone wants to be a guinea pig let me know.

what software you use to edit bios ?
    ami bcp thing ?
can you remove the stock vbios from the bios and add the vbios file that I give you , because I tried adding it , but it still shows the old vbios.
    let me know

I don't have the know-how or ability to mess with Video Bios files within the Bios and I sure do not want to brick your system.

I'd rather not divulge what program I use to edit things as I'm afraid we'll have everyone and their mother creating and editing BIOS files. I'm afraid if I do this then some kid will post a "modded bios" which will brick systems purposely. No one needs to go through that headache.

Actually it shouldn't be any different than stock. Lets not speculate on this until we have the exact settings that were used and when my testing is completed after work. Here for another 7 hours :(.

Unless someone else wants to test by enabling a BIOS password and fast boot.

Note: Others have flash fine without issues including myself on two G73JH machines. One BST7 and one RBBX05.

Added version 5 of the G73JH, this will be the complete ROM unless there are any issues and depending on what the results of the test with Fasboot are.

G73JhAS.213.Moddedv5 - No way to test it as I'm at work, I would suggest using v4 for now.

To remove a vbios from the sbios and replace it, you will need MMtool, if your bios is an AMI bios.

    You need the latest version.

Sorry the title is maybe fitting not correctly, English isn't my mother language so I may pick some strange words to describe a problem.

The modified BIOS is great by the way, I hope that it is possible to add more features in the future :)

And as I said already in my other thread, don't use the "Fast Boot" option for now if you want to avoid possible trouble.

G73JH Version 5 is now tested and works fine.

I tested fastboot, no issues here with and without passwords. Your mileage may vary I guess haha.

Did you flash from your HDD or from a USB stick, that sounds like a complete brick to me. In most case removing the battery will only reset the settings to the BIOS's default settng and not the default BIOS.

How did you flash it, what BIOS were you coming from and do you get ANYTHING displayed on screen when you attempt to power it on?

Sounds like a bad flash to me... again, it's risky. Sucks.

You can attempt the CMOS Battery removal to see if that will help as it will set everything back to defaults.

Also, what ROM did you flash and what machine did you flash it to?

That sucks, I just flashed my other G73JH with the V5 and it flashed fine with the method you used...

When you downloaded the BIOS did you verify the MD5 SUM?

The questions your asking in your post lead me to believe you did not verify it...

There's the issue then most likely.

To fix this you need to look at the BIOS replacement thread a few threads down. You'll need to order a replacement/reprogram it with a programmer.

It's fixable, just a pain in the .

    @scottdrmyers

Might want to add a warning to the 1st post about flashing from NTFS file system higher the chance for a bad flash to happen, especially with the Ezflash. Just to make sure they flash from a USB stick with FAT32 system.

Did somebody really see any effects with this method of BIOS editing?
My X7811 has such a 'UNLOCKED'-BIOS too. But the interesting parts (thermal control) aren't accessable through SBIOS. The EC is still the master. ;)

You can see in my youtube video that it's accessible and works. I wouldnt be going though all this trouble if it didnt work... All the BIOS settings are built into the BIOS and just hidden. Everything that I used so far seems to work perfectly fine. Even that fast boot option.
