Good News everyone!
I now possess the new G73JH BIOS, BIOS 211!
Changes
- To support WiMax device for Wireless Console 3.
- The wireless LED will not be changed after WiMax device is turned on or off via Wireless Console 3 interface.
- Wireless Console 3 will see WiMax but not BT and the system has BT but not WiMax device.
- Locked USB interface or BT device in BIOS Setup utility and boot to OS, Wireless Console still have Bluetooth icon but Bluetooth device is still present in device manager.
- Wireless Console will still show BT/WiMax icon after locking all USB ports.
- To update thermal policy for VGA TSD issue.
Warning: Do not update your BIOS from an internal or external Hard Drive. Do not use WinFLASH. Do NOT update while on battery. Make sure your USB thumb drive is formatted with FAT32. Use at your own risk.
Unpack the G73JhAS.211.zip file and copy the "G73Jh.211" file to the root of a USB thumb drive.
Eject the thumb drive and then shutdown the G73JH.
Place the USB thumb drive into the front-left USB port.
Press the Power button.
Start tapping F2 key until you enter the BIOS.
Select "Advance" tab in BIOS.
Select "Start Easy Flash" and by default "FS0" (USB thumb drive) will be highlighted.

It looks like it contains a video BIOS.

From the German forum. It looks like there is actually a video BIOS in it.
Bios.
Looks like different clocks and Overdrive but missing dynamic downclocking as of yet.
This looks like it is actually the ticket out of here. -
Yes by the size it does look like it contains a new vbios
-
The HD5780m video bios is 128 kb big
The g73jh motherboard bios is 2048 kb big -
Well, are any of you going to try it. I'm skeeered. I don't want to be first.
Where's HellCry? He should go first. He hates his laptop anyway.
Where's Chastity? She'll do just about anything to her laptop. -
agree we need one of them I actually like my laptop

This bios version isn't in German is it? I downloaded it and I'm going to update my g73 around 1pm.
-
Oh this looks nice!
Did anyone tried it out already? -
-
I wonder what's fixed in this one...
probably just another "firmware change" -
Thanks for the 211 BIOS, I'm going to update it now
and install the latest ATI beta driver.
-
-
Eh I will give it a load tonight for sure, I didnt bring my laptop to work today

bump bump bump!!!

Wow, this is exciting!!
Someone Do it !!! -
The anticipation is killing me! (I anticipate that bluecoala cannot get the G73 to take this BIOS, but still - It's killing me
)
-
If this fixes the graphic card problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ill get drunk
!!!
-
I wonder why the bios is 2x the size. Maybe we can disable HT now? Wishful thinking, I know.
-
I will get drunk any way its friday
-
in EasyFlash under F0, only the 210 and 209 BIOS files appear after I copied them on the same usb flash drive.

I sooo can't wait to get to work later this morning to read about another NBR member flashing to 211 with success and any possible changes.
I hope my GPU idle temp of 59 to 66 goes down with 211. -
I Cant even flash it because easyflash will not recognize the file.
In the same boat as BLuecoala -
i'm definitely gonna try it but wait for it to come onto the global/us site..
-
Y would the bios be twice the size?
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
can winflash see it? I would NOT recommend it!!!!!!! Just wondering.....
-
I confirm that you can't flash it. It doesn't exist in your list of BIOS files to choose from. It looks like we are still at 209 until further notice.
-
-
Interesting.
-
I personally find it odd that its twice the size of 209
-
And I can't call them to ask how to flash, they closed 1 hour ago for the weekend
-
How did you get hold of the bios in the first place?
-
I asked for it and they sent it for me by mail.
Maybe just EzFlash can't handle the too large file and need the new Winflash...but using Winflash would be a suicide missiondamm, sry for getting your hopes up :/
-
Well, just have to wait for good news from you then
-
Uhm... the BIOS should only have a fixed memory size. If the file is twice the size, then it isn't for the G73JH. Sorry folks, nothing to see here.
... and what do you mean I'd do anything to my computer??! -
Ok, here I am, a foolish guy who also didn't succeed to EasyFlash this double-sized 211 BIOS file. A month ago, before finding these forums, I was ignorant and stupid and used WinFlash 2.30.1 to upgrade from 206 to 209. That upgrade went through without any problems though - not even the quirk with the keyboard lights.
Well, this time I thought that perhaps I'll trust WinFlash enough and tried to upgrade bios to the provided 211 with it. Of course something went wrong: WinFlash program just automatically erased and rewrote the new BIOS at least dozen times without successful verification or any messages. After ~12 rounds, it gave an error message that 'new bios file doesn't match ROM' or something like that and quit.
At this time I was already crying and tearing my hair, it didn't help that when I tried to re-flash to 209 with WinFlash the program showed 211 as installed version and didn't want to run again because 209 bios was older file. At this moment I was 99,9% sure I had bricked my G73jh
However, Windows was still operational and I searched these forums for advanced WinFlash instructions and found one dating back to 2007. Apparently using the command 'winflash /nodate' in administrator command prompt lets you downgrade your bios. I then managed to re-flash with 209 and voila, it worked!!!! And booted as well
I was curious of course that before the re-flash WinFlash showed 211 as my installed bios despite the previous error message. Thank God I was not foolish enough to turn off the computer... Who knows, perhaps it would have worked and all the GSOD issues would have been gone -
Yep that was very smart thinking not to power down the machine just to see if it worked... Thankfully there are overrides for downgrading a bios as i have used them on my Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard to go backwards as well but its always sorta risky and more so in windows ...
Congrats on not turning your machine into a doorstop...
-
I remove the link and try to find out on Monday how to flash it.
-
Removed the first 2MB and it looks like a regular G73JH BIOS.
Easy Flash shows it as 211 and ask to flash it... -
-
I flash to BIOS 211 but the vBIOS seems to be the same as on BIOS 206:
I'll test driver version 10.7 with Furmark to see if I got GSOD. -
Due to the larger size of the file, could you have also updated the video bios and then when you went back to 209 the video bios stayed updated due to no video bios in 209? I don't know how to check the video bios?!!
-
Ken, did you flash the one I linked or you guys got your own?
-
I download from your link and flash the BIOS using WinFlash. Got BSOD right after BIOS flash completed, never seen that before.
Update:
Running Furmark with 10.7 right now.
Update 2:
Sadly:
Asus G73jh BIOS 211
