You can use this tool to monitor your temps: HWiNFO32 Download

Check your Idle temps first especially MemIO.
Also, which ati driver do you use?

I would RMA that unit immediately. The black screen you are talking about is a thermal limit shutdown which means your GPU has gone over 110C... 114C to be precise.

You should be able to play L4D2 maxed out all day long without overheating. Your thermal paste is very bad. If you are getting GSODs too, I'd just get that replaced. You've got nothing to lose since you already have both GPU problems. I'm pretty sure the GSODs are not related to heat. Mine was overheating without GSOD. I think you have two problems. Definitely time for RMA.

FAT is the ooooold DOS file system format. When FAT32 came along (Windows 95 I think) people started calling it FAT16 to differentiate it from FAT32. Some operating systems will refer to it as FAT16 when you are formatting a drive but I think Windows 7 just reports it as FAT.

Oh, but can we comfirm it was the same vBios? Whether he/she used winflash or atiflash? Those might help to understand why it bricked. Perhaps he flashed a desktop bios.

Everybody please repeat the Keyboard Lights Not Working Mantra:

The keyboard lights cannot be fixed with a BIOS update.

The keyboard lights cannot be fixed with buying a new keyboard.

The keyboard lights CAN be fixed by updating the firmware for the KEYBOARD LIGHT CONTROLLER on the motherboard using a proprietary application that ONLY THE ASUS TECHS HAVE ACCESS TO. You need to RMA.

    End of Mantra.

DO NOT ATTEMPT, BRICK YOUR G73.
Winflash won't even recognize it. You have to force it in dos mode, and brick.

The only good msi bios that seem to work correctly for the G73 is the one they release before v23. so here it is. I currently use it.

We loose HDMI tho. dont know for VGA.
but there is 0 GSOD with it.

    DOWNLOAD

And I recommend flashing it from True dos (with a usb bootdisk or a boot cd) ati dos flash tool are in the .rar

    Edit: fixed link

Ziddy v3 only seem to help a little for me. But the problem is still there.

Again, i repeat. That Ziddys or V3 vBios is only a STOCK ASUS VBIOS with lowered clocks and voltages.
MSI/Clevo vBios are entirely different vBios.

Could be a failed flash witht he others, but i dont feel like risking, since i know the old one works just fine too and i prefer it over this, since i like the old clock profiles, this one just has so many unnecessary ones. All i need is high performance and battery like the old one has it. :)
But loosing HDMI and VGA is just too much. Asus needs to release their own fixed vBios. This isnt a joke to us...

Interestingly enough Bios 211 which can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G73Jh/ is only 1291 KB and according to this site the last time it was "modified" (uploaded to the site probably) is today 08\11\2010.

Ziddy's is just an asus bios with lowered clock speeds and voltages and unlocked overdrive. It doesn't do anything to stop gsod. If u expect to see different clocks, set it in overdrive or amd gpu tool. The msi and clevo bios are completely different. So once again, Ziddys V3 ISN"T a fix...

    He changed:
The voltage on high performance clocks (700/1000) from 1.15v to 1.05v and he changed the battery clocks (before 300/1000 and 400/1000) and UVD clocks (before 500/1000) to 200/500 all and set the voltage on these lower clocks to 0.9v instead of the previous 0.95v. Nothing you cant do with AMD GPU Clock Tool.

Just open both the stock and this edited vBios with RBE and youll see yourself its the same vBios with just a little clock and voltage changes. Its certainly not a fully working solution unlike the MSI/Clevo vBioses, but those are no good either becouse you loose HDMI and VGA (at least useless to me since i use HDMI to watch movies on my Bravia occasionally).

I don't want to start a flame war or anything like that so please don't take this the wrong way. We have a couple of real live Asus people floating around here right now trying to solve the problems with this laptop. If we start hammering them with everything we hate they are going to rage quit this forum.

I have no idea how you worded your PM and it's not my business. I just wanted to throw that out there before we throw out the baby with the bath water.

I was a little harsh on the first reply I made to a message that was posted. :( That was before I realized the guy was legit and was seriously working on fixes for us. Not only that, but they are researching in this forum and using our findings as data points for the fixes. I think that's pretty cool.

One of the techs posted about the 211 BIOS today. The main purpose of this update has to do with WiMax and Bluetooth. It also has some fan speed changes but doesn't appear to be the main fix in it. There are like 5 Bluetooth/WiMax changes and one fan speed adjustment. We know that fan speed won't help bad paste but they may not have even realized they had a TIM problem until they got into these forums and the fan speed modification may have already been in the works.

Again, the comment about cutting the guy a little slack is not directed at you. It's just my opinion. I'd hate to see the guy get ticked off and leave us hanging.
