Hi there i will start to say that my asus had all of this and then with your help i solved it, but as i read your forums i understood that it was hard to understand what really worked so i will explain what i did to solve this effectively.

First Thing first i updated the drivers when i got it and that was the problem. it seems the new drivers (10.4) create conflicts with games and certain applications.

To fix this in my case just downgrade to 9.12 it will work perfectly at least i did this last night and i didn't have a crash in hours.

Problems with 9.12 (i must alert that using the 9.12 drivers will unable you to use maya.) i Work in 3d so when i tried using Autodesk Maya 2010 after downgrading i saw that i started getting an error so i changed back to 10.4 and it was working seamlessly.

The creative Drivers are known to create problems well in my case they only crashed the game to desktop very rearely ( only game that i had this problem was SplitSecond) after i uninstalled all the Creative software it worked fine.

Also i heard people talking that uninstalling the ATI hdmi sound driver worked i must say it didn't work for me.

that's what i did to get it working. i may have forget some little things that may have helped that i don't remember now but this was the major steps that i used to get it working

Asus has a 10.1 Catalyst package that should be stable for you

Go to support.asus.com, and on the 3-bar selection, choose Notebook - Driver - VGA select Version V8.692.1.0

I agree, I would certainly try the 10.1 drivers. I'm also concerned that the OP did a proper uninstall before changing versions.

Admittedly I haven't done a lot of reading on the subject, but from the little I have, Autodesk doesn't strike me as a company to worried about general compatibility. As late as April 2010, they haven't certified the humble consumer graphic card, the HD5870m (or it's brethren), to work with Maya. :)
