I'll not buy a laptop in India and will try my best to get it from USA through friends. The laptop prices are so high here with same configuration as compared to USA. Roughly 50K INR (approx $1110 USD) laptop at USA, costs 70K INR ($1555 USD) here in India. Straight approx 20K INR difference !!!

Do not understand why laptops are so costly here in India :(

Calculated wisely..I was gettin the older version (JH) from vendors here @94k..($2076 incl custom duty) but as i cant find any JW suppliers..Am wondering what will the custom duty be!!

    # How much will be the customs duty n other taxes?
    # I've heard if it is sent as gift..there's a straight deduction of 10,000 Rupees in custom duty! Is it true?
    # Are there any guys who can be hired to clear the customs for us? Being a student I aint sure if I can handle such stuff..:/

Its for sure Asus will make $$$, but the customers will get same costly laptop. In a land of $35 mini laptop, 1L Tata Nano we expect some more inventions in quality laptop too :D

@manu custom duty is not fixed in india its their choice how much they charge but won't charge more then 30% of total cost of laptop removing shipping charges . you can try as gift option but if your luck is good like my friend then they won't charge you one rupee :p

    Good Luck bro

I heard sometimes international shipping resellers applies a trick with mutual consent with the customer. They shows less amount with lower configuration in the bill, but actually ships higher configuration and being paid actual amount to reduce the customs duty. OMG, Is it allowed to post here, if not mods please delete this.

Yea..better is to get as a gift! Coz sometimes they do calculate the cost n stuff themselves and believe me..those officers r quite good in figuring out the actual cost of the laptop. So its kindove pocket risky.. :D
